I was actually surprised when I first heard Ghost, it was so calm it could almost work as elevator music. You'd never expect that from their looks

I remember when duck.fla got past Newgrounds' community police. Those were dark times.

I also remember the huge success Metal Gear Awesome had and how some people threw a shitfit at it being top 30 for months. It was fun to see people making fun of them.

Suddenly I feel like a fucking accomplished programmer, despite only doing some questionable stuff on Godot lately, but never messing up my loops... Not too badly anymore, anyway.

A fizzbuzz type of question I know I would mess up on the modulo operator. I know the logic is if the division of the current_number by 3 has a remainder of zero, write fizz, but I always look up the operator

Will you give me the position if I answer the problems? 😀

I did it. I finally did it. After all these years, all the time I spent searching, I found the last known fully offline build for Graal classic.

Back in the day, as a kid, there was a free shareware game that I played an obnoxious amount of times: Graal. Not the shitty "Graal classic" we have today, (it's a shell of its former self), but the original Graal 1.4.0; I searched EVERYWHERE and I couldn't even get a blip more than old forums about the game reminiscing about...

The part of player created content sounds more like Second Life or VR Chat, but 2D. Or a 2D Roblox, minus the evil corpo behind it.

tiktok and instagram shadowban any content that mentions or writes kill, death, suicide, assault, sex, rape, nazi, among others. Apparently, YT will demonetize any video that uses those no-no words, too

Or, hear me out, Bethesda could add parts of the Script Extender to their actual releases, so people wouldn't need SK/FOSE for every meaningful mod

I guess MicrosoftActivision needs the extra cash. I don't even remember Actiblizz exiting China, given how promptly they adhered to every rule and regulation of the country.

Seems like a vicious cycle with the wealthier people. Since they can buy anything their kids need, there's no need to learn to share. It's all "yours" or "mine", nothing ever "ours".

I dont get it. In that cenario, using Biometrics is not less secure as that wrench would convince you of telling the password.

A password is safer because they will need you alive and conscious. To bypass the biometrics, you just need the body part.

Other notorious sites blocked under Education:

  • merriam-webster.com
  • loc.gov (Library of Congress)
  • unf.edu (University of Florida)
  • oceanservice.noaa.gov
  • duckduckgo.com

That's a great question and I wish I knew the answer to. Apparently, only DDG got blocked as Education/Science, Startpage was blocked as security.proxy, Bing for no specific reason and several Google variations (.ca, .nl, fr, etc) blocked as "App Defender".

The more I look into it, the more I'm left wondering who the fuck created the blocklists. The Social Media category has several instances of sites that are anything but any form of social media or social network

ICastFist ,

My guess is that the headline would be something like "WOKE NETIZENS TRAIN HACKERS TO TAKE OVER THE INTERNET BY SPREADING WOKENESS"

If I'm picked, I'd like Bug Fables, GOG version 😄 - This bad boy's been sitting on my wishlist forever and looks like a truly lovely game.

I would ask for X4, but it only gets under 30 dollars when on sale, and only the base game. It has 4 expansions now, so I'll probably buy the complete edition later this year. Besides, I still have to give Rebel Galaxy and other space games a first try. ^please^ ^don't^ ^ask^ ^about^ ^the^ ^rest^ ^of^ ^my^ ^backlog^

GET AWAY FROM US, BOARD JAMES!!

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

It's probably because WoW isn't as competitive as LoL or Valorant, so Riot's games need to be more aggressive in figuring whether someone is cheating or not. A more apt comparison would be with Valve's Dota2 and Counter Strike

Maybe it’s because I think the more of us suffer, the quicker we can all work together on a larger scale to come up with a fix.

I'd love to share that line of thought, but then I remember the COVID response and that initial plan for a patent free vaccine.

Without tracking, it recommends stuff based on the current video. No idea how different the results might be if you have whole history for them to evaluate

I wonder if the first attempt was simply dragging that Mac System Software to the trash. Not "the computer icon", but it's possible the anecdote was/is slightly misremembered by John

An interesting read, listing several faults of organizations, and a conclusion that is really a surprise to no one.

In short, it would be wrong to think that a tool as rational as AI, in an environment as irrational as an organization, will automatically increase efficiency the way managers hope it will. Above all, before thinking about integrating AI, managers need to ensure that their organization is not stupid (in terms of both processes and behavior).

Uh, I was never diagnosed with any type yet I have fuckloads of different interests, though I very rarely devote enough time to any of them. Maybe I should recheck? Or is it just a case of internet rabbit holes? I mean, you start perusing wikipedia and you have no idea how you went from vector graphic formulae to chemical composition of certain drugs to baryon asymmetry.

It amazes me that the majority of sites taken down are just to watch live sports, mainly (actual) football. There's a lot of money to gain from pirating that stuff, huh.

Why does it feel that Linux infighting is the main reason why it never takes off? It's always "distro X sucks", "installing from Y is stupid", "any system running Z should burn"

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

just not so much on the Desktop

Unix already had a significant presence in server computers during the late 80s, migrating to Linux wasn't a big jump. Besides, the price of zero is a lot more attractive when the alternative option costs several thousand dollars

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

I mean, Wayland is still a hot topic, as are snaps and flatpaks. Years ago it was how the GTK2 to GTK3 upgrade messed up Gnome (not unlike the python 2 to 3 upgrade), some hardcore people still want to fight against systemd. Maybe it's just "the loud detractors", dunno

Reminder that making tips the main part of anyone's income means that they can be exploited more easily.

I share that sentiment. I can understand using some AI to give more visual candy so people have more help their imagination as to what things might have looked like. AFAIK, however, all the map and "token movement" (moving the portraits, ships, etc) can't be done by AI, so there's plenty of human meddling in the creation of the video.

A somewhat related channel that might interest you then is SAMA - Study of Antiquity and Middle Ages. Seems to be more focused on archaelogical findings than written history, the video on Sunken Sciences taught me a lot about stuff found in now submerged coastlines, as well as the Yonaguni Monument (with a nice tangent on why some people insist in conspiracy theories about "lost continents")

A more directly related channel is Kings and Generals, it goes into good details of historical conflicts and battles. Seems to use the same graphic pack/map software as Flash Point

Fall of Civilizations podcast also releases big videos sometime after the podcast proper, and it's always amazing.

Why did they cut her anyway? Dr. Pulaski really gave an air of "I've studied medicine, I know my shit", while Crusher always felt like "cheerleader that bought her way to a diploma"
