The last car I bought is a 2014 model year. The one before that is a 2016. I'm not buying anything made after 2020, even if I have to squeeze gasoline from the rocks with my bare hands. Not because I don't like electric, but because I don't want a spy appliance to drive around in, even if it has emoji headlights.

This whole thing is so depressing. Not Gaza, which is a tragedy, but the conversation around it. People who have family members starving and dying right now are upset, and there is zero empathy for them. Just anger directed at them by people who are (or were) ostensibly on their side.

I will not be commenting further in this thread because it belongs in !politics and I'm out of antidepressants but not booze.

Semi-Hemi-Demigod ,

(Breaking my word but only because you're cool)

If your family members are going to be shot on your dime, I don't blame people for checking out entirely or even pushing for collapse. They're basically powerless in our political system, and when they exercise what little influence they have to stop their families from being massacred, they're treated like shit.

And now it's time to drink and pet my kitty because I hate this fucking system so goddamn much.

Not a Christian but I’ve read the Bible and Jesus is very much not about shoving your beliefs down people’s throats.

“ When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.” Matthew 6:5

I don’t think decision making needs to be nearly as centralized as it is. David Graeber wrote - I think in Bullshit Jobs but maybe something else - about a nursing company in the Netherlands where it’s broken into democratic work groups. They have low overhead and high patient and worker satisfaction.

By putting the decision making closer to the work I think you get better decisions.

Edit: I looked it up and it was Rutger Bregman in "Humankind"
