Everything is about perspectives and everything has nuance that must be taken into account. Yes, that can be really fucking annoying and sometimes works against our hopeful outcomes and does cause our good soundbite moments to be tarnished. There is not a singular universal argument in favor or against every single possible concept we create as a thinking society. To some extent, everything as we conceptualize it is malleable.

Your whole argument looks wholesale more about rejecting politics to embrace idealism. Which is a good thing in my estimation, and seems better situated to have outcomes more inline with what you, and we all, may be looking for out of life in general. Basic human rights aren't political, they're an ideal that goes beyond the limitations of politics.

So in that way, the following works exactly the same towards your preferential outcomes:

Reject politics. Embrace Idealism. Solidarity forever.

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

I can appreciate the logic and the fervor behind your positions.

I will argue a step further zooming out that Basic Human Rights are inherent without politics at all. Knowledge comes before politics.

If anything, politics demotes rights from inherent to defined and limited. Which, simply put, sucks.

Politics is a game, don't ever forget that. We are all in the game and have to keep playing as long as everyone else keeps playing. It's all bullshit layered on top of bullshit, rules laid out by someone that came before with rules added by someone after that, and later again someone else to make up more rules.

Some of the bullshit works great and helps overcome life's struggles and adversities.
Some bullshit brings us all down together and is ruinous to us as a species.
Some bullshit even tends to be ruinous to the entire ecology of life on our tiny blue dot in the universe.

Just be careful to not get too caught up in the bullshit.

Don't get me wrong, I've voted in every election since I was old enough to vote and I do have a certain feeling of responsibility towards civic duty for the sake of a civilized society (and more-so now, for my children, which does help reinforce that ideal). I also try to engage with the news of world and am generally self aware enough to be thoughtful, rational, and capable of compromise.

I don't vote for politics, I vote for ideals.

Cheers.

This is asserting we have no rights outside of what the federal or state constitutions allow, which is a bad precedent to attempt to set. The Bill of Rights Amendments do not provide us with rights, they instead protect us from government limitations of certain rights that are inherent. People seem do not understand the juxtaposition of granted rights vs protected rights in these contexts when diacussing these kinds of cases.

Does the Hawaii state constitution specifically deny the right to keep and bear arms outside of military service?

    Lemmy needs better integration/federation. Too much content is hidden. A community on the biggest instance was not visible to me on another large instance.

    I did a search from shitjustworks for "reddit die" and did not find https://lemmy.world/c/watchredditdie so I made https://sh.itjust.works/c/watchredditdie (unnecessarily). This should really not happen. When someone makes a community there should be a "ping" sent out to notify all other federated instances....

    dezmd ,
    @dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

    I'm glad you grew out of it.

    I was already a married 'adult' with a child of my own by the time 4chan arrived on the scene and had spent enough time online since the early 90s to know what had arrived. It was created by a 15 year old so there's no surprise that it was populated by 1. kids and younger adults without life experience having any regards for ethics, morals, legality, or even thoughtful reasoning, and 2. evil creepy older fucks that migrated from Usenet's darkest corners looking to take advantage of those kids, together who created the most fucked up collection of forums with the some of most vile and evil content possible because moderation was just not done. It fucked up a lot of social radars for the young people that became engrossed the chan-troll lifestyle and community.

    I even attribute it to why we have Qanon grandmas now, the Q conspiracy made the jump from chan conspiracy trolling to my in-laws cousins believing its real because their Facebook feed is where they do all their best research. I even give it a lot of credit for the rise of Trump in 2015-2016, as I watched The_Donald on reddit explode from the chan kids pouring in with their obvious trolling, then the braindead right wingers embracing the literal crazy.

    Being American Requires Conformity to an Open Mind, Open Heart, Open Society, Open Cultures, Democratic Ideals, and Mutual Respect.

    None of which this Superintendent Greg Poole demonstrates.

    Edit: You know what, full on fuck Superintendent Greg Poole. Rules for thee, not for me:

    May 1, 2008

    https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/pasadena-news/article/Son-s-crash-has-Barbers-Hill-ISD-chief-in-hot-1790103.php

    Key excerpts:

    When Greg Poole was arrested and put in jail this past weekend, he said he was acting as a father and not as superintendent of the Barbers Hill Independent School District in Chambers County.

    A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper has charged the Chambers County school superintendent with obstructing the investigation of an accident involving Poole's 16-year-old son.

    The teen flipped his father's pickup and knocked over a utility pole about 3 a.m. Saturday on FM 565 near Cove, about 30 minutes east of Houston, authorities said.

    The trooper arrested Poole for refusing to make his son available for questioning about the accident, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

    "Trooper Dunn asked him twice to produce his son, and he would not," said Stephanie Davis, Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman in Beaumont. "He never informed the trooper where he could find his son."

    EDIT 2: Just to be clear, it's not the trying to cover for his son that is the problem to look at. As a parent myself, I get trying to protect your children even if it's poor judgement, everyone is allowed to make mistakes, child and parent alike.

    What I CANNOT FUCKING ABIDE is the insane hypocrisy this fuck demonstrates through allowing exceptions to the LAWS for his child that he will defend and go to jail over, while demanding someone else's child fall in line to school guidelines that are malleable and far less rigid in both application and enforcement than any legal criminality. RULES FOR THEE NOT FOR ME.

    When you objectively consider all of the information, it looks a hell of a lot like run of the mill racial prejudice.

    dezmd Mod ,
    @dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

    I meant using his sons fuck up as an example of him being a bad person.

    That's where everyone is going off the fucking rails in different directions from my edit.

    I get trying to protect your children as a parent. I'm a father myself and can fathom a reaction of trying to protect a child to the point of going to jail over something.

    You entirely missed the point yourself when you misunderstood the issue as related to him being held responsible for the crimes of his son. He committed the crime of obstruction regardless of whatever crime his son was suspected of, but that's not even the problem here.

    This all reads like some purebred racial prejudice fully baked into governing committees remaining alive and well in pockets of Texas even close to major cities. Not that it's that different literally everywhere else that isn't a major metro/suburb/college town.

    @dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

    We're on the same page for the 'fuck this guy' sentiment but I don't specifically fault him for poor judgements made while trying to protect his kid. At the very least his son left the scene of an accident, but most likely his son was driving recklessly and/or drinking (drinking is the only remotely rational reasoning as to why a parent would go so far as to go to jail to keep the kid away from police in that scenario). Parents can be irrational when it comes to protecting their kids.

    I fault him for being such a piece a shit that he will publicly in-a-goddamn-full-newspaper-ad demand conformity to malleable school rules of someone else's kids, while breaking the law himself to keep his own child from having to conform to society's legal rules.

    How, exactly, do you think learning in humans works? We don't just spontaneously know things, we build on others works and iterate improvements towards our learning and discovery. You didn't just know English, you learned it from someone else who learned it ad infinitum until you get back to the earliest stages of complex chemicals we evolved from.

    Why would a grown ass adult put so much effort into an unlicensed dupilcation of copyrighted IP (Valve) and build it on top of a system from a company known for ridiculous enofrcement of IP that had a walled garden of access to their game system IP that is protected by the copyright cabal supported DMCA?

    There's more sides and nuance to all of this.

    Money is made up, Government is made up, Religion is made up, its all made up, lets not get lost in our own hubris of humanity on this.

    We as human beings happen to have the intellectual evolution to make up all of these variously complex systems of organization. The scientific method itself is such an improvement on our made up bullshit because it created a system to test the viability of the ideas for systems we make up. Your perspective mandates all suspension of disbelief to accept it at face value without any room for nuance.

    At the end of the day, a phrase itself which is just the made up concept to describe the period of our planets revolution in which light from our star is no longer visible from our line of sight perspective, stacking economics and government spending on top of imaginary debt has an instinctual feeling of wrongness even before trying to systemize that feeling into our made up definitions of ethical/morality/legal systems.

    Welcome to humanity, where everything is made up and the points dont matter unless you perceive them in a way that matters. I swear I'm not high right now.
