The taste of hydration!

Studies have produced varying recommendations over the years. But your individual water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live.

No single formula fits everyone. But knowing more about your body's need for fluids will help you estimate how much water to drink each day.

So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:

  • About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks.

Meta accused of ‘massive, illegal’ data collection operation by European consumer rights groups. | CNN Business::European consumer rights groups are accusing Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, of carrying out a “massive” and “illegal” operation of collecting data from hundreds of millions of its users in the...

jimmydoreisalefty ,

The groups claim that Meta (META) collects an unnecessary amount of information on its users — such as data used to infer their sexual orientation, emotional state or even their susceptibility to addiction — which they are unable to freely consent to.

“With its illegal practices, Meta fuels the surveillance-based ads system which tracks consumers online and gathers vast amounts of personal data for the purpose of showing them adverts,” the BEUC said in a statement.

Last May, EU regulators fined the tech giant a record-breaking €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) for violating GDPR rules by transferring the personal data of Facebook users to servers in the United States.

In October, EU regulators forced Meta to start asking for explicit consent from its users to process their personal information for the purpose of delivering them targeted advertisements.

But the BEUC argued Thursday that Meta’s subscription service offers users “an unfair and misleading choice” as its data processing isn’t transparent, meaning users cannot know how subscribing would change the way their information is processed. Moreover, Meta’s market dominance means that users cannot easily leave its platforms without cutting themselves off from their family and friends.

Great song!

“Sharp Dressed Man” is one of ZZ Top’s best known songs, performed by ZZ Top from their signature album Eliminator released in 1983. The song is famous for its guitar riff, recognizable chorus, and music video which received a large amount of airplay during the early years of MTV. When released as a single late in the year, it became their most successful song so far, reaching #2 on the Mainstream Rock charts and on Pop Singles. The lyrics deal with how women have a fondness for men wearing elegant clothes.

The song is featured in the 2005 video game Guitar Hero, as well as a brief appearance on an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head entitled “Radio Sweethearts,” in which it can be heard on a radio. It also appeared on an S&K men’s suits commercial. Debbie Harry covered the song on her “Domination” tour of the UK in July 1991. At 2007’s VH1 Rock Honors. Nickelback covered the song as a tribute (Billy Gibbons had earlier made a guest appearance on Nickelback’s own song “Rockstar”). This song has also been in an episode of Mountie O’reely titled ‘Mountie O’reely and the Fountain of Youth’ and most recently it was featured during a scene in the 2007 movie Evan Almighty. ZZ Top played this song at halftime of the 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl. The guitar solo was ranked number 43 on Guitar World’s “100 Best Guitar Solos”.

Nowadays the song can be briefly heard in A&E’s American reality TV series; Duck Dynasty.

Graphic adventure computer game Space Quest: the Sarien Encounter features an alien bar showcasing ZZ Top performing Sharp Dressed Man. Sierra, who developed the game, got sued for using their image without permission. Regardless they are featured in the remake.

"I was proud today to walk in, and pull a Democratic ballot, and vote 'uncommited,'" Tlaib said in a video message on Tuesday. "President Biden is not listening to us. This is the way we can use our democracy to say: listen. Listen to Michigan."

"President Biden has funded the bombs falling on the family members of people right here in Michigan," Elabed said in a statement on Monday. "Thousands of Michigan Democrats who voted for Biden in 2020 now feel completely betrayed."

It remains unclear how many of the "uncommitted" voters will continue to withhold their support in the general election, but organizers have argued that it's on Biden to earn their support — and they say it won't be their fault if Biden ends up losing Michigan to former President Donald Trump in the general election.

Ahead of the Tuesday primary, officials with the Biden campaign had pointed out that around 20,000 voters have opted to select "uncommitted" in recent presidential primary elections — though the circumstances have varied.

"Uncommitted" accounted for less than 2% of the vote in recent competitive primaries, including 19,106 uncommitted voters in 2020, and 21,601 in 2016.

Four years earlier, when Obama did not appear on the ballot, many of his supporters cast uncommitted votes over his opponent Hillary Clinton, leading to 238,168 votes that accounted for roughly 40% of the electorate.

"There’s crime everywhere, there’s crime in Florida, too, so I didn’t move because of crime. You can find it anywhere you look, even in small towns," the mother of three said.

"I wasn’t moving because, ‘Oh, wow, I wanted another beautiful view.’ Any time changing that paradigm which you become used to, it’s literally to jump-start that process again," he explained.

There he faces multiple counts of computer misuse and espionage stemming from his work with WikiLeaks, publishing sensitive US government documents provided by Chelsea Manning. The US government has repeatedly claimed that Assange’s actions risked its national security.

For the High Court appeal, it is expected Assange’s legal team will once again argue the extradition would be oppressive and that the American assurances are inadequate. A recent statement by Alice Edwards, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, supports their argument that extradition could lead to treatment “amounting to torture or other forms of ill-treatment or punishment”. She rejected the adequacy of American assurances, saying:

They are not legally binding, are limited in their scope, and the person the assurances aim to protect may have no recourse if they are violated.

The Cancer in Occupy

The Black Bloc anarchists, who have been active on the streets in Oakland and other cities, are a gift from heaven to the security and surveillance state.

Interview With Chris Hedges About Black Bloc

A black bloc (sometimes black block) is a tactic used by protesters who wear black clothing, ski masks, scarves, sunglasses, motorcycle helmets with padding or other face-concealing and face-protecting items.[1][2] The clothing is used to conceal wearers' identities and hinder criminal prosecution by making it difficult to distinguish between participants. It is also used to protect their faces and eyes from pepper spray, which is used by police during protests or civil unrest. The tactic also allows the group to appear as one large unified mass.[3] Black bloc participants are often associated with anarchism, anarcho-communism, communism, libertarian socialism and the anti-globalization movement. A variant of this type of protest is the Padded bloc, where following the Tute Bianche movement protesters wear padded clothing to protect against the police.

The tactic was developed in the 1980s in the European autonomist movement's protests against squatter evictions, nuclear power, and restrictions on abortion, as well as other influences.[1] Black blocs gained broader media attention outside Europe during the 1999 Seattle WTO protests, when a black bloc damaged property of Gap, Starbucks, Old Navy, and other multinational retail locations in downtown Seattle.[1][4]

“claws” is the second single from Charli XCX’s 2020 quarantine project how i’m feeling now.

The track was first teased by Charli with lyrics she posted to her Twitter on April 8, 2020. She later played a vocal demo of the track on Instagram Live session on April 10, 2020, also revealing that Dylan Brady of 100 gecs produced the track.

Charli revealed that the track’s instrumental was tentatively called “Claws” in the same Instagram Live session. Charli took to Twitter to ask fans to help decide the song’s name and ended up sticking with “claws” on April 13, 2020.

jimmydoreisalefty ,

Awesome, I'll be sure to check out more of the work done by Brady!

Dylan Marshall Brady is an American producer and singer-songwriter. Born in St. Louis, he is currently based in Los Angeles. He is known for his distinctive production style, combining elements of rock, industrial, trap and electronic music to create a unique sound for his beats and other production.

After releasing several projects independently and producing for artists like The Neighbourhood, lil aaron and Night Lovell, Brady signed to Diplo’s record label Mad Decent and released his Peace & Love EP in 2018. The following year, he reunited with friend and close collaborator Laura Les to release a full-length project as 100 gecs to critical acclaim.

Besides solo releases and work as part of 100 gecs, Brady has collaborated extensively with other artists, including Charli XCX, LIZ, Rico Nasty, Deb Never, and Jesse. He also operates Dog Show Records, an independent label distributed though Mad Decent.

"800db cloud" to "I Need Help Immediately" what a transistion of energy!

"stupid horse" -

"xXXi_wud_nvrstøp_ÜXXx" - was not expecting Soulja Boy lyrics!

"ring tone" - great and catchy!

"gecgecgec" - fun start, wonderful end!

"hand crushed by a mallet" - close second!

"gec 2 Ü" - favorite!

1000 gecs is the debut studio album and successor to 100 gec’s first self-titled EP.

Released in early 2019, the album was positively received due to its aggressive production and wide variety of catchy vocal cadences. The critical success of 1000 gecs extends to multiple year-end lists, with Pitchfork ranking the album as the 42nd best of the year, Jon Pareles of the New York Times citing it as the 10th best, and Noisey declaring it as the best of the year.

Financially fragile consumers — defined as those who have a credit score under 620, fell delinquent on a loan, or were declined for a credit application in the past year — were nearly three times as likely as financially stable consumers to use buy now, pay later (BNPL) five or more times last year, according to new research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

For example, if you want to purchase a vacuum from Costco (COST), you’ll have to disclose the amount you want to spend, and the BNPL company will give you a preapproved spending limit for the item. Borrowers can then make a payment through a virtual card in-app to pay for online or in-store purchases.

Unlike credit cards, which charge interest on revolving credit, most BNPL apps offer no-interest loans as long as you break down payments over six weeks or four equal payments.

For instance, if you were to purchase a tablet priced at $544 using Affirm, a payback period of 12 months at 25% APR would accrue $76.45 in interest. Meaning your estimated total would increase to $620.45 — a hefty total similar to what you might pay if you’d used a credit card.

But the use of BNPL for items as common as groceries, which now cost 25% more than they did in 2020, indicates that Americans’ personal finances are in trouble. In fact, among consumers who used BNPL during summer 2023, some 56% said they used the payment to buy groceries, a survey of 3,100 consumers from PYMENTS found.

While both groups leaned toward smaller purchases, a majority of financially fragile consumers had an average purchase under $250, while financially stable individuals were more likely to use BNPL to finance bigger purchases between $1,750 and $2,000.

Since BNPL lenders aren’t subject to regulation the way credit card issuers are, this could cause younger people to "normalize" debt accrual, warned the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Consumers could also be forced into auto-payments or have less protections should they want to dispute a fee, for example.

However, the majority of financially vulnerable folks who used BNPL were those between the ages of 30 and 50.

  • For this group in particular, the resumption of federal student loan repayment is yet another pressure point on their finances.

When BNPL users were asked if they could come up with $2,000 in the next month in case of an emergency, only about half said they could. Additionally, only 42% said they could use savings to meet emergency costs, while the remaining share said they would have to rely on borrowing from friends, family, banks, or credit cards.

Another concern highlighted by the NY Fed is that BNPL could be enabling consumers to spend or borrow more than they should. A separate study revealed that individuals often spent 20% more when using BNPL products.
