I don’t know if I’ve heard of the cheezits before, they are good though. I just know leeeeeeeeeeegggggggssssss.

They are stereotypes and not rules. I hope nobody actually takes them too seriously beyond jokes and memes.

Could you combine 5 and 3? Name the bot after the mascot?
Do you plan to keep this list up to date as you work through it?

What is enterprise.lemmy.ml?

Every time I browse lemmyverse.net, I see one of the top instances in terms of registered users is enterprise.lemmy.ml. Right now it has 54.2k users, putting it behind lemmy.world and ahead of lemmy.ml. However, if I go there, there’s almost no content, even on All (which implies it’s not federated). Is it a test instance...

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Looks like a test instance. URLs are read from the end to the beginning, so enterprise.lemmy.ml is a domain controlled by lemmy.ml. As that is the instance that the main developers control, it would follow they have a testing environment. In addition. Almost all the posts, users, and communities seem to have “test” as part of their name. It being the instance controlled by the developers is why lemmy.ml is always a link, while lemmy.world would need to be formatted as a link to get a link.

Any company that still insists on forced password resets and frequent changes needs to learn about Social Engineering and Human Factors.

These are the same companies that don’t support second factors, only have their app as a second factor, or only SMS second factor. Is it too much to ask for smart card or token (yubikey) support?

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

And if you don’t forget it, you’ll use a simple one that’s easy to guess or contains common substitutions, p@$$w0rd!. And then when you do forget it you’ll call support who will reset it, and they get so many calls it will make taking over another account easier.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Perfect security. Nobody can access.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

What about when you go and log in tomorrow?

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

A password manager does nothing to stop Social engineering and human factors on the provider side.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I think your missing the point. It doesn’t matter how good an individuals security practices are if the system itself has bad security architecture.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Mine went to once a year for most systems. There is probably an external requirement somewhere that says they need to be changed periodically and once a year is the lowest frequency they can do.

l_b_i OP ,

I don’t think I’ve gotten past finding the correct length video. Getting that to work with everything else and keeping what’s his face alive is just too much.

l_b_i OP ,

I don’t have any first hand experience, but anecdotes I hear, Medical and Banking have some of the worst password/security practices.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

you and @CodingCarpenter must use the same system.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

All I know is the mortgage servicing company I use seems to have started ~3 month interval, that they don’t say (no second factor available either). When I went to pay my internet bill, I get greeted with a message “you’re passwords been reset”. I’m stubborn and I was just using those sites to pay bills, so now I just don’t log in to those anymore.

Insurance, and government need to catch up to the research. For sites that support them, I really like the Yubikey as a second factor.

l_b_i OP ,

I like your optimism.

I haven’t seen Maëfeline before.

As at least one person will see it, so here is the list I forgot in the initial post.
ota kuwolf: wide array of themes, “trap runner” a bondage game-show, lots of bitchsuits, scifi,…
helixjack If I had to give a theme, transformation.
ravensflock Transformation and hypnosis. Works some with serathin who writes stories of the same theme. xenolugia150- deleted profile used to write a bunch of good stores for ravensflock too.
Other planned categories could be weird, rope, traditional, stories, comics.

There is a tool I’ve heard about that subscribes to remote communities for federation until a real subscription. boost.lemy.lol

l_b_i , (edited )
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

From the way I read it, you create a user for the tool so when you submit your instance, it can run on your instance. One of the users chosen at random is here discuss.tchncs.de/u/communityboost

You can read a discussion about it here pawb.social/post/4136386

I also came across github.com/Fmstrat/lcs

Edit: Looks like sh.itjust.works/u/iso might be the user behind it.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Glad it worked. It looks like its for getting the big stuff while communityboost is designed to help find the small.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

yiffit is 1 shy of 800 users. After the post is old enough, if people here liked it, it would get some votes; it doesn’t. I don’t know enough about how the sorting works here to know what would cause it to pop back up in hot after being new. I do know that -2= never seen in hot/active again.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

oh, I know. but stuff popular among those here still winds up net positive. I try to use the smaller communities to bring awareness that they exist. If no one posts, no one will post.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I think that is only users who comment/post. I don’t think it counts votes or logins. I know probably a majority of registered users aren’t active, but I think there are enough to at least keep things popular here at 0.

Without knowing the events surrounding your anxiety, I can’t really help you there.

I have a very privacy focused view online and would likely use VPNs or other methods to circumvent technical limitations. As for the payment processors, yea they have a history of being hostile to adult topics I think onlyfans was big enough to have negotiating power. Fetlife had to stop accepting credit cards (they might accept them again now) due to processor requirements that would have required them to remove many fetishes. At least with distributed platforms (mastodon, lemmy, matrix…) you don’t have to ever worry about identifying yourself, except maybe to the local admin.

I don’t know what the current general view towards sex is, but then again I watch mostly sex positive spaces where most people do have an AD or just post everything on main. Like everything sexual expression comes in waves. In the mid 1900 hollywood was fundamental in their enforcement of “decency”. It has been a fight for hundreds of years and no signs of it stopping.

Edit: Forgot to mention patreon, they just kicked another kink off their platform.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

That lemmy instance is not known to be the most accepting of differing opinions. Its a shame its one of the bigger ones.

At least with the laws, for now they seem to only be local to states with others going the opposite way. From growing up in a not christian part of the US, to living in a fairly christian area now, its amazing how casually religion is thrown around. I don’t even think people realize they do it.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I don’t know how much is puritan vs how much is liability. you always have to think about the brand image and although sex sells, we don’t want our brand associated with it. Crypto was supposed to solve some of the payment stuff, but its just confusing, full of scams, and full or investors turning it into a commodity rather than a currency. There is still cash, and bank transfers, but that only goes so far. I’d be happy to see a more open credit network, but I don’t really think there is a big enough market for someone to try and fill that niche.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

That way of thinking is so foreign to me I can’t quite figure out where it comes from. I know “The Church” has a history of pushing itself around, with many people bragging about their mission trips. To people where “the church” is their identity, it seems their worldview is anyone they don’t agree with is going to hell, and they want everyone but the sinners in heaven. If you try to look at it from that world view you can almost reason out its not hatred, its love. I want to save you. I mean, that’s wrong but its the only way I can see reason in that opinion.

To argue against someone first you have to try to understand where their beliefs come from. I don’t know how much of what I put above is trying to attach empathy to those who lack it, but its the most charitable way I can try to see how they got to their opinion.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

For me I take an effort to recognize its out of my control. Once I do that and focus on the fact there is nothing I can do about it I can move on. Some things have a little staying power, but once I try and focus on the next thing it slowly fades away.

I can’t comment on fursuits, but I did wear my college mascot costume when I tried out. It was… freeing. Even though it was only a few minutes, and I cringe at the horrible skit I tried to do. While wearing it and performing, I was able to do things I would never have been able to do in front of others without wearing it.

Overall I would say it is a dissociation to a degree. A 'sona isn’t them, its someone else with different goals, fears, wants, and abilities.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

My thought process is just so far from that, that I can’t remotely understand that point of view. The best I’ve heard is the 0 sum theory, that somehow they think if things get better for someone else it gets worse for them. Its just something I can’t understand.

Its all just a money game

There have been a lot of days recently where I just want to take a month off from “Adulting”. Not just a month off from my job, but paying bills, shopping, all those little things you have to do to continue existing. I want to work on personal projects, volunteer, play games, relax…

Happy birthday! I will help you remember today by sharing with you the most useless measurement I know of the cran. A measure of uncleaned herring.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Much of lemmy outside of memes, piracy, and linux is a bit dead. Take !formula1 It has 8k subscribers and the most recent race has 76 comments. /r/formula1 has 3.4M subscribers (500x) and the most recent race has 10.3k comments (135x). I like the little bit smaller feeling of lemmy, but probably a little too small right now.

As for mastodon, I don’t have an account over there, but finding people is hard unless you already know they are there. To start, you have the decision issue of which instance to join, then you have the discovery and de-federation issues present in the fediverse in general. Its super hard to browse twitter without an account now, but from what I can see, bluesky is the next destination and many have abandoned mastodon. I think that’s because bluesky fixes both of the main issues with the fediverse. There is only one of it, and everyone is on the same one. Unfortunately its closed to guests and will likely suffer the same fate as all VC supported social media.

I don’t even know if letting people know about lemmy would help much. There are already so many other places people are present, are the interested in yet another?

A little bit of the activity from me is also due to the emptiness here. I wanted more so I decided to be the change I want to see. Unfortunately for everyone else here, my favorites are niche of niche.

I’m certainly not part of any community, except I guess yiffit, but I’ve also never really given it a shot.

l_b_i OP ,
