/ Israeli forces rescued two hostages held captive by

Most Israeli outlets call the operation in which Israeli forces rescued two hostages held by in a building in an “intelligence success”, or “heroic operation”. Non mention, in the same report, that two soldiers from the Maglan commando unit were killed (in Khan Yunis).

None discuss in the same report the fact that many more hostages are still in captivity, and that the risk for their lives, in the absence of negotiations, increased substantially as a result.

Some though do include, with a notable sense of accomplishment, that “dozens of Palestinians were killed”.

All in all 566 Israeli soldiers died since October, 229 since the operation-turned-massacre started.

@oatmeal @israel @palestine Israel reported that of the remaining 134 hostages, 31 confirmed dead, 20 probably dead, and an additional number died in earlier operations. This is not a success.
Different subject: at least 29 of the reported 556 IDF killed were killed by the IDF. Likely many more.

/ In Private Remarks to Arab Americans, Biden Aide Expresses Regrets on Gaza

In a private meeting with Arab American leaders on Thursday, Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer acknowledged that the Biden administration made mistakes in its response to the Gaza war that has killed over 27,000 Palestinians since October 2022.

“We have left a very damaging impression based on what has been a wholly inadequate public accounting for how much the president, the administration and the country values the lives of Palestinians. And that began, frankly, pretty early in the conflict.”

Finer admitted the U.S. failed to properly convey the value it places on Palestinian lives. He expressed regret over the White House statement on the 100-day mark of the conflict that did not mention Palestinian casualties. Finer also said the administration should have faster condemned dehumanizing rhetoric by Israeli officials comparing Gazans to "animals."

Lest we forget what we Americans did, and are likely still doing; here is an extract from Wikipedia about MKUltra. This was a drug, torture, murder program engineered by US and not much different from what we now do in the MiddleEast
Secret detention camps In areas under American control in the early 1950s in Europe and East Asia, mostly Japan, West Germany and the Philippines, the CIA created secret detention centers so that the U.S. could avoid criminal prosecution. The CIA captured people suspected of being enemy agents and other people it deemed "expendable" to undertake various types of torture and human experimentation on them. The prisoners were interrogated while being administered psychoactive drugs, electroshocked and subjected to extremes of temperature, sensory isolation and the like to develop a better understanding of how to destroy and to control human minds.[3]
Torture is as American as apple pie

/ Israel Has Bought a Mass Online Influence System to Counter Antisemitism, Hamas Atrocity Denial

This comment probably summarizes best this long and detailed report about Israel’s failed influence attempts, which completely misses the point:

"Israel's public diplomacy failure" cannot be fixed with and . It can only be fixed by stopping the mass killing of Palestinians, and ending the occupation.

It just might be that at this stage, Israel’s influence operations need to extend to Israelis and Jews around the world, who no longer believe Israel every word after seeing what it’s done in so far, the cynical use of and memory of the and what now seems more like intensified ethnic cleansing efforts.

“Black lives don't matter”

One particularly disturbing detail about the way in which unofficial Israeli propaganda channels work is the following:

[…] South First Responders, another Telegram group active in English, also published exclusive videos from the Hamas attack. The channel also seems to be the first to publish videos of the execution of Joshua Mollel, a Tanzanian national slayed during the Hamas attack.

[…] Mollel's family was informed, three days prior to the videos portraying his vicious murder, that he had died. They were invited to Israel to see the evidence but in the meantime, videos of his kidnapping and murder appeared "exclusively" on the page and later on Israeli social media accounts, including the Foreign Ministry. They were published with the hashtag "Black lives don't matter" for Hamas. Mollel's father told Haaretz their publication harmed the family.

[…] "The need, from Israel's perspective, was to dilute the value of the videos Hamas was pushing out and allow Israel some way to publish content of its own from the field too," one of the sources explained.

News from Israel that 3 more hostages were found dead. Deepest sympathy to the families.

Have to wonder though, if they were killed by Israeli fire or Hamas. There is a reason that careful action during hostage situations is usually called for. Indiscriminate bombing, artillery fire, thermobaric weapons (suffocation), and flooding tunnels kill hostages as easily as these actions kill Hamas.

Unless the goal is not to recover hostages, but to punish all Gazans.

Nearly half of the air-to-ground munitions that has used in in its war with Hamas since October 7 have been unguided, otherwise known as 'dumb bombs,' according to a new US intelligence assessment.

[…] experts told that if Israel is using unguided munitions at the rate the US believes they are, that undercuts the Israeli claim that they are trying to minimize civilian casualties.

Brian Castner, a former Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officer who now serves as Amnesty International’s senior crisis adviser on arms and military operations:

[…] “It’s bad enough to be using the weapons when they are precisely hitting their targets. It is a massive civilian harm problem if they do not have that accuracy, and if you can’t even give a benefit of the doubt that that the weapon is actually landing where the Israeli forces intended to,”

We cannot trust Republicans to control or even to correctly assess the danger of Trump. We must defeat him at the ballot box.

In 1939 the Heritage Foundation and the GOP would have hosted this event in Madison Square Garden.

The major corporate scions of the day were all on board with this. The Bush's, the Prescott's, the Trump's, the Kennedy's, LIndbergh, etc.

@w7voa Bok also resigned because of his disgust with the vileness expressed by members of Congress and some in the Jewish community.
We all know that countless people have called for the elimination of Palestinians and the proscription of Muslims, Hindus and others with no ill effect. Some were either President or powerful media members.

pro-Israel lobby in the USA attacking the academia sounds a lot like an episode in Fellow Travelers… 🤔

[…] The 3 Presidents were offered numerous opportunities to condemn racist, antisemitic, hate rhetoric and refused doing so hiding behind calls for “context.”

@oatmeal @israel Dems, at least, have made the calculation that support from the Israel Lobby and AIPAC is more likely to lead to more funding and thus, more votes, than support for Palestine.
Poll numbers, especially the under 40 demographic, belie that.

@georgetakei TBH, Biden was 20th in my personal preference for a Democratic presidential nomination.
However, that 20th rank is infinitely better than any Repuke in the past 63 years.
