On what types of junk files did you save most of the space?

person ,

Oh yeah I can definitely relate! Though I do delete the more useless parts of them gradually.

person ,

Cringe because furry. Based because you know what you want.

person ,

I pick something that describes me but isn't too specific

person ,

Not trying to gotcha you or nothing, but it's funny, that image being hosted on amazon aws.

person ,

Oh my! I thought it was made from some kind of tree sap! Apparently those do exist, but all of the ones you find in stores are platic based!

person ,

lemmy.ml (your instance) removes swears and slurs and puts fuck i mean removed in their place

person ,

(really hoping it also filters fuck, doubt and regret has already set in)

person ,

It saves every post and comment on its own server, and filters it there. If you're viewing text through lemmy.ml it will not have the N word in it. Apparently fuck is not strong enough, hence my doubt in my immediate reply to my own comment.

edit: I assume if a user on lemmy.ml comments a slur on a lemmy.world instance it will also federate only the censored version, but I'm not sure about that.

person ,

lemmy.ml is run by the devs, one of whom is dessalines. He talks about it in general for example in this issue, and again in general in Lemmy's ideal Code of Conduct here (I say ideal because it's what they want, but instances are free to do whatever they want to, at risk of defederation)

I'm sure there are lots of other places they talk about this, but they seem to see it as an integral part of Lemmy, so perhaps there is no specific announcement post. You can join a different instance and you will see a lot less of removed.

It was kind of like that. They were asking whether copying jpg files and compressing/decompressing them into and out of zips worsened their quality.

I don't have the post's text but this was my answer:

As others have pointed out simply copying the file, or compressing it in a zip will never ever change it. It is fundamentally the exact same file. If you load it up in a photo editor (not just viewer), and resave it from there, then it might lose more quality.

Renaming it to png changes essentially nothing about it. Most software will still recognize that it's a jpg, and open it up as such. If they tried to open it as a png, they would fail. If you load the jpg into a photo editor and save it as png from there then it will actually change formats. But there is no point in doing this. The png's file size will be much larger, and you can not get any of the quality back that you lost when initially saving it as a jpg.

The post was prior to deletion renamed to:

DELETED FOREVER. LOSER

so that's cool...

person ,

It is in the modlog but it was already renamed to

DELETED FOREVER. LOSER

person ,

I commented on it and my comment history shows that as the post title.

person ,

uses your pose in proprietary software anyway (you'll never know about it)(even if you did you can't afford to sue me & my team of lawyers)

person OP ,

We take those little workers for granted.

person OP ,

I do not! I've edited the title to reduce ambiguity :)

person OP ,

I hope you find peace in darkness one day, nutsack.

person OP ,

haha yeah that sounds stressful!

person ,

You can get informed at https://gnu.org/freemeals

Excerpt:

When we use the term free in the context of meals it is not about price. We do not care about the price. It is free as in "Libre", meaning you have the freedom to eat it or give it to someone else who will also have the same freedom to do with it as per wants.

person ,

Yeah I don't know how you would recommend Home Movies. It's just good and funny.

Maybe you should watch a bit more first but I definitely recommend you and your partner check out OMG SONIC IS SMOKING?! [Home Movies/Sonic Parody]. I know nothing about sonic but this captures the essence of the show so well it feels as if the creators made a special webisode and just uploaded it there!

Garfield's 1978 pipe strip resonates with a new generation once more!

Go because it doesn't spread the liberal propaganda that horses exist

Now I wanna see who would achieve total galactic control first: Lauren with her charms, Patrick "That's a stupid question!"-ing his way to the top, or Jack pulling off an intricate heist to take over every computer ever made in a single moment.

person ,

Since no one mentioned this: Jerboa simply because it's FOSS.

person ,

You didn't just use a ternary operator to then return true or false.

person ,

I have the same card, and I had the same issue with Proton GE (well I don't remember which version exactly). Then I tried the latest version a couple months ago and it worked flawlessly.

Never had that driver update issue myself.

Linux Mint btw. For kicks I updated to the much newer kernel version instead of the default LTS, and despite expectations everything works great with that too.

person ,

This is not the first time I've seen you comment this and I'm starting to doubt that you're joking...

person , (edited )

NU-TREK sounds like a low calorie granola bar advertised to hikers

person ,

There's always exactly one screw that won't let go and I end up stripping it beyond hope, so I rarely get the platters out. I only want (need!) the magnets anyway!

person ,

What do those have to do with microplastics found in bottled water?

person ,

Neither of the quotes you supplied make that claim.

person , (edited )

I do not have a point that needs sourcing. The article quite simply does not discuss other sources of microplastics. It does not dismiss them either.

edit: Allow me to elaborate a little less formally. OP's initial comment straight up sounds like whatabaoutism by Big Bottled Water. It dismisses the microplastics in water bottles, pointing to other sources of microplastics. OP then claims that the article dismisses other sources, failing to provide any relevant quotes. Have I gone insane?

person ,

I prefer the term Decanonicalized Ubuntu.

person ,

Never thought about that. Makes total sense! We'll just have to work a little harder, i guess!
