Unreasonably excited today. Someone has posted online 35mm scans of the original theatrical prints of the Back to the Future trilogy. Downloading them now.

For 35 years I have been saying I remember a particular shot in Back to the Future II that is not on the VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-Ray, or any deleted scenes. BTTF II was the first movie I remember seeing in the theater, when I was 7.

I once found a single frame from the shot on a BTTF trading card set, the only proof I ever had.

rodhilton OP ,
@rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

@sanimalp no that's a deleted scene that never made it to the final theatrical cut, but it's been included since the anniversary DVD as a special feature.

rodhilton OP ,
@rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

Huh. I guess I was wrong. I swear I remember seeing this vehicle backing out of a driveway in the movie, but all I have is this trading card.

Obviously Basketball has been around for a long time but the thing that propelled the NBA to the popularity it enjoys today was having superstars. Wilt, Kareem, Michael, Magic, Charles, Lebron, Kobe, Shaq, Larry, they all really propped up the sport to be a mainstream pop culture phenomenon beyond just sports fans.

Caitlin Clark absolutely has the same traction, I see people talking about her constantly. All the "nobody watches the WNBA" jokes are about to age like milk.

lol remember when this absolute moron said solving the bot problem was going to be easy?

I love that he is only applying this to new users as well. Millions of us sitting on accounts we don't use because it's a shithole over there and this dunce is about to declare the exact price that all those old accounts will get sold to spammers for to avoid the annual fee.

rodhilton OP ,
@rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

According to TechCrunch and a later post, there will not be an annual fee after all (even though the post he replied to indicated there would be) and free users will be able to post after 3 months.

So he's already backpedaling on this after someone told him how stupid it is.

There's a great plugin for Plex that lets you create virtual channels from playlists, but the problem is that it doesn't work if you ALSO use Plex for antenna/DVR purposes.

The impression I'm getting from the description of the Deadpool 3 footage at CinemaCon is that the movie has one joke in it, which is "we went from Fox to Disney" and Wade Wilson is going to deliver that joke four hundred thousand times.

Deadpool's schtick was, for me, wearing kind of thin by the second movie. The character is meant to be annoying in the comics, and Deadpool 2 delivered that.

This movie sounds like it might be kind of insufferable.

rodhilton OP ,
@rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

Here's a fun fact.

According to the description, Deadpool specifically refers to "Feige" as having rules.

She-Hulk established that Jennifer Walters can break the 4th wall canonically, and in fact she breaks OUT of her show into the Disney+ menu, and then uses it to get into the Marvel Studios headquarters and confronts the head of the department, which turns out to be an A.I. named "K.E.V.I.N."

This means that Deadpool's not breaking the 4th wall, he's breaking the 5th wall.

rodhilton OP ,
@rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

Jennifer breaks the 4th wall into a different fictional reality where the head of the MCU is a robot.

Wade actually breaks past that into our actual world, where a human named Kevin Feige exists.

So his 4th wall-breaking ability is strictly more powerful than She-Hulk's, and he would actually be aware of this.

Isn't this a fun thing to be able to think about, doesn't a character who never shuts up about knowing he's in a movie sound like a not-at-all grating concept?

The finale of Ghostbusters II takes place on New Year's Eve, and the film takes place over the course of at least 8 distinct days based solely on how many times night falls.

Therefore, Ghostbusters II is a Christmas movie if Die Hard is.

The most fun thing about having two children is one will always be a danger child and the other will be an anxious child.

So when you try to explain to the danger child how unsafe it is to look at the sun, your anxious child will become terrified to look at anything in the sun's direction.

And when you try to assure the anxious child it's safe to look at the sky, your danger child will conclude they can stare directly at the sun for anything less than 30 seconds.

    Used to be that if a giant bridge collapsed, you'd be able to hop on Twitter and read all about it, the rescue efforts, what happened, all as information was being uncovered. It was the place to go for a major news story, people would be tweeting new info and it would all be gathered under the heading 'Francis Scott Key Bridge'...

    rodhilton OP ,
    @rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

    Right now on X, there is a 'Key Bridge' trending topic, Francis Scott is missing. It's trending under "Politics"

    The entire feed is:

    1. This is Buttigieg/Obama/Biden's fault
    2. Conspiracy theories about how this is similar to the Obama-produced 'Leave the World Behind' movie
    3. Something about the missing/dead workers being Hispanic that I honestly can't even follow
    4. Accusations that this is DEI's fault for "lowering standards"

    What an absolute irredeemable shit hole that place has become.

    Before accepting an offer at my current employer, one of the places I was considering an offer from was Reddit. I was tempted because of the rumors of an IPO, and I thought that with the stock grant that would be a huge potential upside.

    After seeing that their stock price nearly doubled from IPO price of $34 to $67.5 in just a few days I decided to torture myself and look up what my grant price was in the offer.

    Turns out it was $61.79, less than a year ago. Then they IPO'd at $34.

    rodhilton OP ,
    @rodhilton@mastodon.social avatar

    @twoshoes Yeah they offered employees a price for the shares knowing that when they IPO'd just a few months later they were going to trade at half that, and then miraculously the stock price stabilized almost exactly where they thought it it would based on the grant price.
