Sure it's a sweet comment, but the premise is inaccurate and motivations questionable. They weren't "simply taking a walk", they were purchasing flowers. And the person that gave the compliment has a financial conflict of interest. Their opinion on the matter shouldn't just be accepted at face value.

He must have forgotten about the massive amount of infrastructure required to even make his refusal to pay taxes possible. I suppose he would prefer to not be able to buy things?

runswithjedi ,

So the party of "free speech" is afraid to freely speak?

runswithjedi ,

People are capable of echolocation too. They must be Battleship masters.

Despite the limitations, Daniel Kish shows that his ‘FlashSonar’ is actually, in some cases, far more effective than the visual input that we receive. His method of echolocation grants him a three hundred and sixty degree view of his environment, with it working almost as well behind him as it does in front. He can ‘see’ around corners and the sound also works through surfaces- it is, in a way, almost like having X-Ray vision.

Stuff like this used to bother me too and I have gradually realized that Linux logs pretty much everything. It really will tell you exactly what's wrong if you know where to look.

runswithjedi ,

I say roll up those sleeves and become a jelly donut eating champion.

runswithjedi ,

Holy hell, that's wild. What are the wind speeds like to move that much air around that fast?

runswithjedi ,

I had to convert that for it to make sense to me, and wow! That's ~18-36 mph!

runswithjedi ,

It's like astronomy: size isn't necessarily predictive of mass.

Android Police has gone downhill hard over the past couple of years. I used to follow them closely, now I avoid them.

runswithjedi ,

Great idea. I'd gladly join in if they made a torrent.

Japanese indie dev tells randoms begging for keys and offering exposure to 'buy it, you piece of garbage' ( www.pcgamer.com )

In a recent FAQ spotted by Automaton, Housenka responded to a hypothetical of "I'll promote you, give me a Steam key" with a delightfully blunt: "Buy it, you piece of garbage." Or, as Automaton translates it from the original Japanese, "Buy the game, you piece of sh*t." I can't decide which I like better, honestly. The...

This is a great story. I kind of want to buy the game just to support them. Looks like there's a demo for Windows available. I'll check it out later.

Interesting, I like the concept of digital sovereignty. I didn't see anything about actually maintaining the software they use, though. Seems like that would be a good way to ensure success and they could influence the development to meet their needs.

runswithjedi ,

Woah, that's astounding. I'm really impressed with this level of dedication. They've invested millions in FOSS projects!

List of projects: https://www.sovereigntechfund.de/tech

They're even investing in ActivityPub. Thanks Germany! https://www.sovereigntechfund.de/tech/activitypub-test-suite

LLMs at their best: telling you exactly what you want to hear. They're scary good at that.

runswithjedi ,

I remember reading this book as a kid about a post-apocalyptic world. In it, people found relief from these machines that would inject them with some sort of drug. The drug would cause them to have intense visualizations of whatever they wanted to see and they got to feel that experience for a limited time. Of course, it wouldn't last so people got addicted and wasted away.

It was an intense read for me at the time. I can't remember the name of the book and I'd love to read it again. There was something about a utopian city that the kid in the book was trying to get to, if that helps anyone identify it.

runswithjedi ,

I found it! It's called The Last Book in the Universe. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/924194.The_Last_Book_in_the_Universe

This is the line that grabbed me.

Nobody around here reads anymore. Why bother, when you can just shoot all the images and excitement straight into your brain? I've heard of books, but they were long before I was born, in the backtimes before the Big Shake...

Outlasted them in what? Mortal combat?

Additionally, the state argued that Ms. Wood’s identity itself was at odds with the state’s teachings on gender and sexuality, and thus she could be barred.

Wait, are trans people barred from working in Florida schools? Are they saying it's illegal to be trans??

runswithjedi ,

It really is a great movie. Super intense and all the characters are fascinating.

I'm wondering the same thing. They don't mention how it functions besides some spoofing. Are they using the API or something else?

runswithjedi ,

This is exactly how I grocery shop. I look at the list, memorize the next 3 things, and repeat them mentally until I get them. Then I have to look at the list again.

runswithjedi ,

Cool, I played through a few months ago and it was really fun. The update looks really nice.

runswithjedi ,

This is awesome, thanks. Now that I have it installed I'd like to try it. Know any websites to test it out?

It may be a sentient scale, but I did set the units this time. I do have trouble turning it off. Sometimes the power button only resets the tare, like it doesn't want to be turned off.

runswithjedi ,

Have you seen the price of avocados and toast lately?? OFC it's most of my budget.

runswithjedi ,

I'd be surprised if a gray person with no ears and four short rounded fingers drove up to my window too. I do appreciate the tip, though.

runswithjedi ,

Joke's on you I have a laptop. Now I never have to get out of bed.

Trump has been the plug keeping it stopped up for years.

What the actual fuck? Russia invaded Ukraine. How is Ukraine the aggressor?

runswithjedi ,

Yeah, I generally view all federated instances. So I saw a post about a game that I put a lot of time into and expressed my opinion.

Why would everything in this community need to be completely positive about Cyberpunk? Isn't it the widespread criticism that led CD Projekt RED to go back and make fixes?
