Recommendations for boots, Male with flat feet ( feddit.uk )

Could anyone recommend me some good boots that have good arch support that wont give me blisters. I have flat feet (no arch at all) and regular shoes give me blisters and hurt my legs because they don’t support my non arched feet. I’ve had much better luck with boots but the brand I usually buy from Amazon (northwest) no longer make the boots I feel comfortable wearing. Hopefully this isn’t a stupid question sorry if it is -_-

TrueStoryBob ,

I've had good support from Carhartt brand stuff.

Solidarity my flat footed amigo!

What are the boots for? When I did engineering field work in a previous life I swore by my Redbacks, they're a popular choice with EMTs and firefighters here and they last forever.

Check out supportive insoles too, super feet green are helpful for people who think they have flat feet but in reality have just always worn shitty shoes and haven't exercised much. A really good pair of walking shoes with supportive insoles will help a ton if this is you. I didn't have properly supportive shoes until I was maybe 25 and they made a world of difference in my life. I too was told I had flat feet, but it turns out that a lifetime of poor shoes will do that to you. Most of my knee and posture problems resolved themselves after I brought supportive shoes and was able to walk comfortably. Check out Ecco if you're looking for good walking shoes, my pairs usually last a good decade or so.

I've got a pair of Merrell hiking shoes and some basic heavy duty insoles from Dr. Scholls. My only issue was getting used to the lack of material under the toes, causing them to angle down a bit.

I recommend starting with the insoles first, see if they provide the support you need. If that doesn't help, I recommend escalating to a doctor. They can provide better shoe recommendations than us randos on Lemmy.

You want boots with replaceable footbeds, I personally recommend altberg https://www.altberg.co.uk

There's loads of orthotic footbeds you can buy, the superfeet green is what I use, but I don't have flat feet. Since they're replaceable you try a few different ones, I think you can even get custom ones on prescription.

Keen. keenfootwear.com

Modest_Toxic OP ,

Nice one I will check them out thanks!

casmael ,

Yeah I was going to suggest keen - good if you have wide feet but could be a bit heavy depending on specific shoe etc

Do they have a Good Feet Store where you live? I have never used them myself. But some folks swear by 'em. I think they sell inserts, and they supposedly have a lot of knowledge and equipment for figuring out what you need.

Modest_Toxic OP ,

They don’t no. But thank you for the recommendation

Catoblepas ,

Is it super necessary that the boots themselves have good arch support? A shoe insert would be easier to work with, you just want to make sure the insole of the boot is removable before you buy it if you’re not comfortable trying to remove it yourself.

Xaphanos ,

Or real orthotics. Mine completely changed my ability to get through my day.

talentedkiwi ,

Any recommendations on a casual sneaker? All the ones I have tried are too narrow for my orthotic.

MrsDoyle ,

I was going to suggest proper orthotics as well. Mine were expensive but have served me well for years. I move them into whatever shoes or boots I'm wearing. They don't work with sandals sadly.

My solution is good $100 custom inserts and Red Wings. Cleared up plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and a number of leg/back problems. I think the inserts were more important than the Red Wings, but they are a quality boot.

Modest_Toxic OP ,

Not necessarily at all as long as they last a while. Ones I have bought don’t tend to last very long (probably due to me being heavy). Could you recommend a good brand?

Catoblepas ,

For inserts I’m a fan of Spenco, not sure if they’re available in the UK.

Superfeet are pretty great, but spendy. All the good ones are. Sole are also good but dont last as long ime.
