My deleted posts won't go away! French

Hi I've just arrived on Lemmy but I'm already talking shit and people hate me like when I say Twitter is better than Mastodon (sorry I'm an idiot). But now I want to delete my post because I don't assume but it won't go away!!!! Can someone explain to me how the delete system works? Thanks a lot.

can ,

As a federated service deletions can take time to federate out to other instances. It's also good practice to first edit the post/comment away before deletion.

can ,

I can't find any updates from the past three years either.

can ,

Adding the Lemmy logo was really what this meme needed

Third times a charm.

Now that DuckDuckGo is out. Give me your search prompts and I'll answer them as best I can. That includes images (based on what I have saved on my PC). So what is it you wish to know or see?

Edit: Due to popular demand FatTony Search servers are down for the time being. but has gone open source just in time (Yes that's how it works 😡) . You may now get responses from other users. Servers will be back up some time later.

So this is what it feels like.

Families of Uvalde school shooting victims are suing Texas state police over botched response ( apnews.com )

The families of 19 of the victims in the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas on Wednesday filed a $500 million federal lawsuit against nearly 100 state police officers who were part of the botched law enforcement response to one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history....

Remembering this story makes my blood boil. Don't be a cop if you're a fucking pussy.

I felt bad leaching too but another addon fixed that

Can confirm, saw a kid doing this recently and thought it was cool as hell

You need to put a > in front of each new line.

can ,

Just check the web ui and it appears it's part of Lemmy.

TESTING

TEST

Edit: Sync doesn't seem to require one added to blank new lines but Lemmy does.

One tip is that most of us "use" Lemmy a bit differently than Reddit. Most niche communities (with some exceptions ofc:-) here aren't as active as they were on Reddit, so many of us end up spending more time in the generalized ones - e.g. !technology rather than specific ones like r/OnePlus or even r/Android.

I know it's now a cliché comparison but that was what early reddit was like. If you were a more recent redditors you need to realize it started smaller too, originally there weren't even subreddits, and there was a /r/reddit.com once they were introduced.

That level of granularity largely won't be necessary here for a while but I don't mind at all.

can ,

Seconding this @Damage Lemmy has really shown me this first-hand multiple times. For example !connectasong started out with a few regular posters but then there was couple mo th period where we all seemingly forgot. Once I remembered I went back and decided to just connect songs with my self each day until it came back. Turned out it worked in under a week.

But it can also take time. I made my own community was the only poster there for months, posting maybe average once per week. Subscribers trickled in slowly and then I found its subscirbers growing exponentially and now others contribute.

Remember, people are abandoning reddit slowly all the time, it's not all grand exoduses, I see it as building a relatively active community for future users to find. !fedigrow was recently created for more discussion in this area.

I thought that didn't work anymore but maybe that's just the paywall removal.

‘FUCK the LAPD' Shirt Maker's Entire Shop Sold Out After Cops Threaten Him ( www.404media.co )

The creator of a “FUCK the LAPD” shirt sold out not only his entire stock of that shirt but also sold out many of his other designs after the Los Angeles Police Department Foundation made an intellectual property threat against them that claimed they owned the letters ‘LAPD.’

Ireland, Spain and Norway to recognise Palestinian state ( www.theguardian.com )

Ireland, Spain and Norway have announced they will formally recognise a Palestinian state on 28 May, triggering an immediate response from Israel, which said it would retaliate by recalling its ambassadors from Dublin, Madrid and Oslo, and withholding vital funds from the Palestinian Authority....

can ,

Or are you saying that there is no possible way for Israel to exist either than as an ultra racist etnostate that systemically discriminates against a part of its population based on their etnicity?

Not who you're asking but as a citizen of a country that's working through that transition I hope it could be possible, but fear it will take decades.

UI differences are a big factor in the success/failure of decentralised federation of diverse platforms and content

And this seems a good example: bridged posts onto which has a lower character limit than Mastodon.

So, just like posts on mastodon, you don't get the full content of the post (which ends with an abrupt ellipsis here) and have to take a link to the original platform.

However powerful the underlying protocols, this isn't far from screenshots.

@fediverse

How do you see Lemmy posts on Mastadon anyway? This comment I understand but what about my posts?

25 Years Later, I Am Now A Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Apologist ( kotaku.com )

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is historically significant for many reasons: it was the first Star Wars movie in nearly 16 years, the last Star Wars movie shot on film, and a polarizing, pulpy entry in the storied space fantasy franchise. It debuted on May 19, 1999, 25 years ago almost to the day, and earned over $1...

I think it was acted well, but directed poorly. I wouldn't be surprised if that performance was exactly what Lucas wanted.

Can't see comment replies

Hey all. I'm having this issue where a bunch of content replies disappear on me. Or, rather, they are in my inbox, but when I click them to go reply and vote on them in the comments of the post where they are, they are completely missing from the thread/conversation. So to make it clear, they never disappear from my inbox, but...

can ,

Language settings maybe? Can you see this comment (in inbox or otherwise)?

can ,

What language settings do you have in your Lemmy profile?

can OP ,

Some could easily be main channel videos too. Peter Pandom perhaps being the ultimate example.

Fixed(?): Black screen when swiping post closed bug resolved after Samsung's One UI 6.1 update

When Samsung last updated One UI several months ago, myself and many other Samsung users (and Pixel users on Android 14 as well, judging by the replies) encountered a bug where swiping posts closed showed only a black background until fully closed, after which the content one would expect to see would appear....

can ,

This is how I found out one ui 6.1 was available lahke for me. Thanks. Notice any other problems post update?

can ,

That's good. I heard they made gestures changes but GoodLock can restore them.
