Measures to reduce profitability of electric utility companies

Passing an initiative to call for their dissolution seems impossible. However, reducing their profitability through bits here and there can help us reduce their influence and make public takeovers more likely. So, an initiative that requires one or more of the following:

• Reduce or eliminate late payment fees
• utilities provide a bill credit for each hour the power goes out
• minimum power delivery charge eliminated
• reduce the guaranteed profitability requirements
• reduce allowable % that utilities can profit from infrastructure improvements and heighten thresholds for constructin need to be proven.
• engaging in a stock buyback reduces triggers a reduced profitability for the company for a time
• increase restrictions on utility lobbyists
• stack the deck by assigning more ratepayers advocates on the boards of utility commissions
• allow solar systems to be added or expanded without mandating a change in rate plan
