I just reread this book recently. It's especially funny because when the protagonist arrives there, and sees the Eloi doing nothing but eating fruit, frolicking, and sleeping in big puppy piles, he's like "ah, so the communists won..." Which I thought was kind of woke for the time.

Anyway, it's funny, because when you think of it, the ultra rich do get to live in a kind of exclusive post-scarcity society, based on theft and exploitation.

Years later? Pretty sure they spelled that out explicitly in the book. It wasn't any deep hidden meaning.

As a 12 yr old kid, i was more focus on the time travel aspect of the story.
