The Final Fantasy XIV Reddit sub is currently full of discussion about the DDoS attack which disrupted servers worldwide yesterday.
Finding it very interesting how in the world of cybersecurity and infosec, DDoS attacks are often dismissed as one of the simplest form of cyber attack, while on the subs and forums, many people are hearing about this kind of thing for the first time and have no idea what's going on.
Makes me think about the difference in how 'cyber' is perceived by those who live and breath it compared with those who only happen to stumble across it when it actively disrupts something in their life. #FFXIV#infosec
I tend to dip in and out of fandom; I had a stint with #ffxiv a while back and still have a soft spot for the #BureauOfBalance arc of #TheZoneCast, which I wrote a bunch of fic for (ao3 link in profile).

Finished #ffxiv 5.3 today (I'm behind, I know) and man, that was one of the most heart-rending chunks of story I've seen in any game, MMO or otherwise.
Plot that called back to quests we played literally years ago, character resolutions that were well and truly earned. Wife and I were both wiping our eyes on multiple occasions.
In its scope, in its quality and in the way its story continually builds upon what came before, I don't even know what other game to compare it to.
I didn't know what to expect from the unannounced job but I wasn't expecting Krile to job change into a Pictomancer, Alphinaud in the previous trailer was just bait.
But with 2 new DPS jobs, DPS queues are going to be absolutely disgusting come the new expansion #FFXIV#FinalFantasy#FF14
The new #ffxiv Alphinaud & Alisaie figurines look better than their Ancients set, it seems. The hair is still a little unfortunate, but at least the faces no longer look....off?
Encyclopedia Eorzea 3 is out! I'm starting to see JP side share some pages online about the Convocation....I hope there's more about Thavnair because I love Thavnair and have been waiting so long for more lore. #ffxiv
The #FallGuys collab in #FFXIV is really well designed with amazing visuals, interesting challenges, and great music... held back back by atrocious netcode where you get hit by an attack that you stopped standing in 2 seconds earlier. I've got my rewards and I'll never do it again
The extended Dawntrail trailer doesn't really add anything new that's importent but I am absolutely excited for this new expansion, I'm loving the style of these zones and I can't wait to see every DPS queuing as a Viper... and we can't forget the Kirito cosplayers #FFXIV#FinalFantasyhttps://youtu.be/2ISoqghadkE
The fight is....okay? It's not bad, it's giving me issues when it comes to quick process of elimination because that's usually my weak point but nothing that can't be learned.
Not a very interesting fight, imo, but it could be worse.
Reminder that it's 24 hrs maint in 20 hours' time so be sure to farm whatever mogtomes you need/do your Rising event quest if you haven't/park yourself near the unlock quest of whatever you're doing first! #ffxiv
