Among Isekai titles, #TheWrongWayToUseHealingMagic stands out as a show that isn’t a one-man show centered around a single character who came to a new world, and one that raises the stakes without appearing too dark.
It addresses the topic of fighting in an actual war with seriousness, and manages to NOT have the existence of healing magic make that seem too inconsequential.
I really liked the characters and how they all bonded and influenced each other. The (entirely unromantic) relationship of Usato and Rose is a gem.
It's Winter 2024 Anime preview time. It's myself and guest co-host, @station, giving our thoughts on new series debuting this anime season. We discuss 17 shows, with 7 being quick thoughts and 10 being a bit more in depth.

Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord Episode 1 Impressions
Purely setup from start to finish. First half was just the intro to the game the MC played before being isekai'd. Then it was the MC being reborn, power leveling and starting school.
Not much to say this first episode. Going to have to watch one more to even make a decision. This is one that could have benefited from a double length premiere episode.
Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adprable Episode 1 Impressions
Kind of cute beginning. The snot thing was weird and gross. And yet they showed it again. Other than that it could be a fun rom-com as long as further ecchi stuff isn't snot based. Wish the dude was a bit less of a fool lol.
Gonna give this a 2nd episode to determine if I keep up with this one each week or not.
'Tis Time For "Torture", Princess Episode 1 Impressions
What I wish Mr. Villain was. This is how you do a one note joke show. 🤣. This is absolutely ridiculous. I can't stop laughing. The food looks great and the reactions were killing me.
I'm looking forward to this being a lot of fun this season. Need episode 2 now.
The opening theme song is sooooo good. Sadly the show is rather boring. The humor just isn't hitting the notes for a good laugh. It's trying so hard with some of the reactions characters have, but I'm just left staring blankly.
I almost wanted to chuckle out of pity. Oh well, won't be continuing this one.
If you've followed us on ANY of our social accounts (or our RSS), you've seen that our team has been blasting through watching the first episodes of the entire Winter 2024 anime season.
Kind of dumb show, but I enjoy stupid shit like this 😂. Its got surprisingly good visuals and production. MC is fine and the ladies all have good and interesting character designs it looks like.
I love my ecchi harem stuff when done well, and this seems like it will be dumb fun. So I'm definitely giving it a couple more episodes to see how it goes.
The Strongest Tank's Labyrinth Raids Episode 1 Impressions
This was nothing special, but I didn't hate it. Rud is a tank who didn't fully know all of his skills and got kicked out of the hero's party for it.
He heads back home to his ill sister and rescues a young girl and learns about his skills. Nothing major happens yet. Not sure what future episodes will entail. So far probably not going to watch weekly, but will check out episode 2 and decide then.
The Wrong Way To Use Healing Magic episode 1 Impressions
What the hell is this and why is it so ridiculous. I expected a generic isekai, and I've been laughing my ass off.
It started off so normal, had a bit of funny moments, then BOOM! Its so over the top suddenly. 🤣 I'm definitely watching more of this show. Hope it doesn't drop the humor, but the ending credits worries me it might become more serious later
Glad they put all the setup of the characters and story in to a long first episode. It was interesting to see this one adapted, as I've been reading the light novels.
Seems to have good production value, which is nice. Hoping this one holds up well tonthe novels. I look forward to more of this series.
The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 1 Impressions
The episode was fine. Pretty decent production, but MC is not too interesting right now. It was mostly another episode 1 that's all setup, so kind of hard to judge the show as of now.
Will watch another episode or 2 before making a decision on it.
Loving this. Great production, the food discussion and preparation are interesting, and somehow making me hungry
I understand the complaints about their lack of urgency, but I see it as just a plot point to show off eating monsters along the journey to save the sister.
My Instant Death Ability Is Overpowered Episode 1 Impressions
Basically all setup for the world, and the MC's ability. Follows the light novel to a T in this 1st episode.
The animation is a bit lacking at times, but not unwatchable. We'll see how the next episode goes, but pretty sure this show won't stand out much in a landscape of isekais already available
This was bad... I just started checking out and played a mobile game. Characters are meh, the story is meh, the CGI monsters suck...
it's a weird masochistic male fantasy where you fight as a slave for physical intimacy rewards. If it had been done for pure humor, maybe this would have worked... But this is just not interesting.
