Ooh, we have a 2hu group now? I just posted it there too. Thank you.

Reimu Hakurei from Touhou is back, this time wearing clothes that aren't red. This Blue Reimu looks way more relaxing floating around, and all she did was swap colors with Cirno. It's amazing what a simple player 2 color palette can do to a character design.

Here we go again. Alice in Wonderland's rabbit hole? That's not flying; that's falling with style! I think it's stylish enough to belong here.

About that thumbnail, don't worry. This video is from seven years ago. @goodyearblimp is still around. The Zeppelin NTs they use now are just technically not blimps. I just took this video last year.

Privacy-focused people of Mbin and Lemmy, do any of the third-party YouTube viewers support spherical video? Someday I want to live stream in spherical video, but only if people can actually watch it on their own terms.

No idea, but if you put the video file up for direct download you can view spherical video in VLC. I'm not sure what the exact requirements are to make it recognize it, but I know it can do it. (I'd guess it probably just looks for a copy of whatever metadata that YT wants you to tag the video files with.)

I apologize for directly linking to Birdsite's media server here, but this artist's profile requests for her work not to be reposted. My backup idea encountered a similar request, too. I'm still not sure linking to the art on another site follows artists' wishes not to be reposted. What do you think?

I originally credited this as "Ambient Swim: Neo Mega Ultra Z-Star by Stim Studio" and thought I did enough research. Then, I dug deeper and found the actual artist, Alexandre Blain. There's more to him than just this commission for Adult Swim. It turns out he does a lot of cool stuff with witches! Oh, you'll definitely see more of him here soon.

@e-five I tried uploading this 35 second loop to Fedia as a 5.7MB webm video before I uploaded this 5.7MB bitcrushed gif instead. It seems Mbin throws 500 Server Errors whenever it receives a webm upload. That's too bad. The webm looks a lot better, and this post actually links to the webm version on Catbox. I think that's how this post worked, too.

MentalEdge ,
@MentalEdge@lemmy.world avatar

I only rarely host media on my instance itself. Catbox lets me control exactly what the file is, as the file is not subjected to any post-upload conversions.

But many instances will actually grab a copy of the image and cache thumbnails at various resolutions.

Thunder's current version actually attempts to load the instance cached versions of images, though this has unintentionally left it unable to load and display the source file.

In the future, the plan is to make this configurable, to allow users to set an image size they'd like Thunder to request from the instance cache instead of loading full images every time, allowing for faster browsing and conserved bandwidth.

Sorry for missing this, seems mention notifications aren't working for me at the moment (hyphens have always been problems but because /kbin allowed them we're stuck with them, even though almost all AP platforms like mastodon and lemmy don't allow them) (we had fixed it four months ago but... I guess something happened since then). Not sure I know much about media uploads but can at least look into it / talk to one of the other team members that usually knows a lot about this stuff. (Alternatively feel free to post an issue on github as that probably will be more reliable than I am >.<)

This is a Floating Is Fun first: we have our first repost! This is the all-time top post on the old subreddit but it didn't do well on Fedia. I'm glad this is getting a second look; it's really good! This doesn't break rule #3 either because it's been over 180 days since we've last seen this.

It actually really helps that you've uploaded a webp version here. As you posted this, I was busy re-encoding this Ambient Swim video clip to webp to see if webp files work as both animated and non-animated images. I'll post it as soon as it's done.

MentalEdge OP Mod ,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

My posting tool thumbnails large files for quick loading in the feed regardless of client or connection. Webp is almost twice as efficient as jpeg when it comes to file size at sane picture quality.

The source file is still linked in the post body.

Webp can do animations, but not as efficiently as actual video codecs. Better than gif tho.

I tried uploading the 5.7MB webm to Fedia, but it Mbin throws 500 Server Errors when I upload a webm of any type. I ended up uploading a 5.7MB bitcrushed gif, and linking to that 5.7MB webm on Catbox. I hope the Fediverse gets proper webm support soon.

You should also be able to use catbox as the host for the webp file, and still use that link as the main link in the post? I've used this to post small animated images.

Additionally, Lemmy already embeds videos if you link a video file directly, but some mobile clients have trouble.

Supposedly, the next major Lemmy version will come with video upload support.

I figured out Lemmy/Kbin/Mbin crossposting. Just post the same URL as another post and they become crossposts of each other. Huzzah! I was watching the sea lions at the zoo today playing around underwater and I think they're my new favorite animal.

MentalEdge ,
@MentalEdge@lemmy.world avatar

Yep.

This also means that different people who post the same thing to different communities have their posts show up as "linked" allowing people to find all the places people are talking about something.

It mostly works with youtube videos and articles though. With images you have to make sure to use the same image link.

This is Floating Is Fun's 600th post, but I'm conflicted here. The artist's Twitter profile says "Please don't repost." and I respect those wishes, but this isn't art isn't on that Twitter. I didn't reupload the image to Fedia, but this post is actually a link to pixiv.cat, a proxy service that I regularly use to download full size pixiv images. Clicking the thumbnail will take you to pixiv.cat. But the way Mbin and Lemmy work, they go download a thumbnail from the URL I link, and that means... every instance reposts the image anyway. I'm not sure this acts according to artists' wishes not to be reposted.

Hatsune Miku shows up a lot on Floating Is Fun because she can float in any way any artist can ever think of. This version of Miku hails from a wild future where gravity is optional. Seems legit.

This one's definitely but I'm not sure which types of floating should actually count here. The carp streamers and rainbow streamer which are Windpower on their own are almost Airswimming here. There are also balloons and some other stuff randomly floating about. There's enough going on here, it makes a good desktop wallpaper at least.

WildBlueFantasy's OC Riley Flightheart is resting in the supreme comfort and safety of an indestructible magic bubble. WildBlueFantasy's recent output has drifted in NSFW directions, so I won't post those here, but they're still good if you like this kind of stuff.

hitstun OP Mod , (edited ) in Twilight Ticket by Awoko
hitstun avatar

It breaks my heart, but Awoko's Pixiv profile says "please do not do redistribution of my works to others." So, this time I'm trying something a little different: a link post. Fedia grabbed a 277x380 thumbnail Tumblr's maximum resolution image and broadcasted it to the Fediverse, but clicking that thumbnail should take you to the artist's Tumblr instead. I hope this method of linking to this art is OK with the artist's wishes. It's this Gumi art's 10th anniversary and it's too good not to be seen here.

@aeharding, Voyager sometimes doesn't display this link thumbnail (Edit: This instance didn't get the thumbnail?), but other times it does.
