Imagine a world where techbros were working to mitigate the effects of actual danger instead of shilling self-driving cars, data harvesting software, brain implants and all the other crap we neither need nor want; all to amass more personal wealth so they can construct billion dollar fraidy-holes to save themselves when the world they've wrought burns.
@dangillmor
It's far more likely to be be very good news in a backhanded way.
I worked for Calgary Waterworks, and we had this bad flood in 2005, did damage. This scared us and we built up a lot of flood infrastructure: berms to protect homes from the riverbanks.
...the very last of which was rushed desperately to completion just in time to save hundreds of houses from the far more devastating 2013 flood.
With "LUCK" we'll have one bad enough to scare us, before one bad enough to kill.
