Google Pushes Unpopular Chrome Update

"After an update in June this year, a feature called the WebRequest API will be removed, and the adblockers and tracker blockers that depend on this feature will stop working. Since the business model of Google is to track your online activity and then show you personalised ads, it is not difficult to see why this feature is removed.

(...) they are forcing the same update on all Chromium browsers as well."

@nixCraft Just looking at that first picture I can hear the sound of those keys.

Somehow I deleted my father's movies folder with over 100 movies. Thank the gods my rsync script included that folder and I have a copy on my DAS. It's going to be a long night of file transfers.

Do you have a favorite vintage computer?

alejandrobdn ,
@alejandrobdn@social.linux.pizza avatar

@nixCraft Yes, Apple Macintosh. It was the first computer I used more seriously. The funny thing is that over the years I've become an Apple hater and I don't want to touch anything with the Apple logo on it. Fate is full of paradoxes.

I pulled the trigger and bought my brother a Slimbook laptop as a Christmas present. I've only read good opinions about this Spanish brand and, on top of that, they send it to you with GNU/Linux preinstalled.

@redstarfish I haven't read anything about them that points in that direction, but, after all, it's GNU/Linux, Linux Mint in the case of this laptop: sudo apt purge X and that's it.

I understand that you are not talking about this but about the philosophy that is used as a background for these initiatives, but from a practical point of view we are not tied to anything like in other OS.

@redstarfish I fully understand this. Regarding the issue, I didn't find an explicit sentence on their website in my first search, but I don't think they use closed hardware, especially since they sell their equipment with the option to choose from a multitude of distros (it would be difficult to guarantee 100%% compatibility). Ok, linuxers... What would be the right slogan for this chocolate?
