I messaged my friend to ask if he wanted to go surfing and he said he wants to go to Malibu (one of the most crowded surf spots in the world and it’s the weekend so will be extra crowded) 💀

Every time someone mentions Malibu, this video plays in my head

    Hypothetically, if you burned out so hard that you quit your job with no backup plan and your options were either look for a new job immediately knowing you're not over the burnout yet, or move somewhere cheap but miserable and take as long as you need, what would you pick?

    I love that I can get the classic Twitter experience on here. Someone replies to my post with "why do you hate blue collar workers?" then when I tell them to fuck off, they complain about my incivility as if their reply was a totally normal and acceptable way to start a civilized discussion.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @crankylinuxuser yeah I was extremely confused about that part, given that right now lack of cheap EV options is a major barrier to reducing carbon emissions in the US.

    malwaretech , to Random stuff
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    Bruh. I just want a nice luxury EV that doesn't fund the world's most obnoxious man baby and his awful social media platform. If you're gonna lock BYD out of the US market, at least ask one of the US manufactures to make some good cars first.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    It's been like 100+ years of oil lobbyist making absolutely every aspect of American life garbage on purpose. Can we please do something else for once? I'd like some trains and EVs that don't catch fire or amputate limbs.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @ukuku It's so ugly 😭

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @jdrch @AT1ST Because they're all way overpriced. People can afford $60k cars with interest rates at 12%.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @jdrch @AT1ST We do know how well they would fare here, which is why there is now a 100% tax preventing them from entering the market.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @jdrch @AT1ST No, it's based on a study suggesting that the cheap Chinese EVs would absolutely dominate the market

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @spmatich Not sure that's as big of a consideration in the US. Very few roads here where you're not going to fear for your life trying to change a tire. Most people just call tow trucks to take them away.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @jdrch @AT1ST I can't find it now, but there were several documents from US manufactures expressing extreme concern the BYD Seagull would dominate the US market, undercutting their sales.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @GreenFire You need to work on your English grammar, comrade.

    malwaretech OP ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @jdrch @AT1ST Safety standards is not a good argument after the US approved the cybertruck, a stainless steel missile with no crumple zones and a trunk that closes with enough force to amputate limbs lol

    Someone recently asked me if I'm patriotic, and it kind of made me think. As a dual national currently living in a 3rd country in which I'm not a citizen, and who intends to relocate to a 4th country, if I was going to be parotic, to which country would my allegiance be? The country in which I was born, the country in which I've spent the majority of my adult life, or the country in which I intend to move to. Like the whole idea of patriotism just seems super abstract at this point.

    The strangest thing you can barely if ever buy on Amazon is usb wall worts for other countries. There are 1 million giant klunky converters with outlets, but not just a cheap usb wall plug for your phone or GAN for your usb-c laptop. With how much stuff is just USB today, that's absolutely wild.

    malwaretech ,
    @malwaretech@infosec.exchange avatar

    @hacks4pancakes I imagine it's due to the certification requirements. The charger would need to be certified in the US to sell it here, but if there even is a certification process for electronics that won't work in the country they're solid in, it's probably not worth the cost/effort for the manufacture.

    Sometimes you can find sellers on the version of Amazon for the country you want the thing from that ships to the US, but shipping fees aren't gonna be worth it unless you're buying bulk. Could try Alibaba and just pray it doesn't catch fire

    I'd heard about the price war between BYD and Tesla, but I'd never actually seen any of the BYD cars because they're banned in the US. Some influencer imported one and did a review and now I'm pretty sure the ban is the only thing keeping Tesla alive

    "Biden’s car tariffs are largely symbolic because Chinese EVs were virtually locked out of the US by tariffs imposed by Donald Trump during his presidency. However, lobby groups have suggested there is a future threat as Beijing seeks to use exports to compensate for the weakness of its domestic economy."
