Screenprinters: is there anything that can get speedball dye out of a white T-shirt?

We have some prints that got some dye in the wrong spot.

@requiem Do you mean ink? Is it water-based ink? If so, probably nothing you can do. If plastisol ink you can maybe try to scrape it off.

    Picked up a thing! A kids' instant camera that prints on thermal paper.

    Had seen them around and was intrigued. With some community emerging on the I figured it was worth jumping in!

    The camera seen from the front like like a weird square pink kitty. There's a curl of thermal paper coming out of its head, like a cash register receipt, on which the picture is shown.

    Hardware companies love AI because it means more sales of "faster and more powerful" hardware, which means more money for them.

    Software companies love AI because it means you'll buy the new version, or re-up your subscription...

    1/2

    rasterweb OP ,
    @rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

    Does the AI run on local hardware or the cloud? Maybe both? Either way I'm sure every large company will capture any AI-output from your software for "training" but I get that developers could find that data useful to make better software... but will that happen?

    I wonder if open source software will be the last bastion of freedom against AI "infecting" all of our software.

    2/2

    @fistfulofdave Interesting. I recently bought a 2014 Mac mini for a specific use in my shop (doing shipping labels) and it is totally fine.

    Granted, I'm not doing any heavy processing on it, but the industry always needs to push newer and faster because they chase profits, not good.

    rasterweb OP ,
    @rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

    @fistfulofdave I recently replaced the battery on my four year old iPhone because I didn't want to upgrade. The battery was the only issue I had, and besides that, it works fine for what I need... but of course, Apple has to sell more iPhones.

    rasterweb OP ,
    @rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

    @kancept Good to hear. I guess I am more concerned about companies like Adobe and Microsoft baking it into every single product they have, and not giving users the option to disable it.

    @joe I keep wanting to hear positive stories about AI helping actual people, not just corporations and their bottom line...

    Do people understand the impact ChatGPT can have on how we control our software? No more hunting through menus among a thousand options to figure out how to do something. Just use natural human language. The UIs we've had to design and live with will be a thing of the past. Yet no one seems to be talking about this.

    rasterweb ,
    @rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

    @davew Being able to search in an application’s settings/preferences has been a huge improvement over digging, but I’m still pretty skeptical on AI for that.

    But some people use them like this:

    My response: If Chat-GPT is saving you hours, are you now able to work less hours and instead spend that time doing other things? That should be the primary goal of AI... Give humans more time to do as they please, not just cram even more work into the same amount of hours.

    As someone who hates making mistakes I've spent almost three decades checking the spelling of any word I am not sure of before I post something online. I mean, I am on the Internet... I can look up any word!

    Meanwhile, in 2024 the majority of people just "TIPE WERDS IN BOCKS!" and don't give a shit how wrong they are... In fact they wear it like a badge of honor.

    rasterweb OP ,
    @rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

    Someone told me that a lot of spelling or typographical errors in comments are because people use text-to-speech when they post.

    All I heard was "People don't give a shit about being correct or doing the minimal amount of work to make themselves not look like lazy morons."

    rasterweb OP ,

    rasterweb ,

    @Tamami @davepolaschek No no… it’s a specialized tool to document scenes with… receipts! Totally not a toy!

    rasterweb , to Photography
    @rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

    I've been experimenting with loading photos not taken on the toy camera and loading them onto the camera just to print them out... I think you need to get a small file size and maybe(?) remove metadata... though it may also be an issue around how some software writes a JPG.

    I don't know if anyone else has figured this out yet, but if not, I'm working on it through trial and error.

    @joe I think I still have one working battery pack, though honestly I haven't used it for two or three years.

    The battery pack consists of three lead acid batteries like you'd find in a UPS.
