If you could ask anything about the fediverse, ActivityPub, Mastodon, Threads, etc., what would it be? Let me know and I will try to include some in the video 👇
@Techaltar how can different "socials" of the fediverse offer a new experience to the federated instances?
Does it have to propose a change in the ActivityPub protocol in order to do it the "good" way? Won't this halt innovation or/and promote a fediverse where each one will work on their own feature individually, with a very basic common base between each federated social?
@Techaltar My main question is if it will actually change anything, and if it'll catch on. Threads and various Mastodon instances getting more popular is nice, but if people just defaults to generic Twitter behavior or just use the biggest instance, then I don't feel like that'd change anything.
Also, moderation and discoverability. I still use Twitter because that's where artists can post whatever and I can actually discovet artists unlike in Pixiv where they're just there for consumption.
@Techaltar activitypub doesn't scale well and is quite ancient. Would it be feasible to transition to a newer spec at some point or are we stuck here forever?
@Techaltar How much control do creators have over the spread of their ActivityPub post? If someone has different audiences on Tumblr and Mastodon, can they make a post exclusive to a platform even if it's ActivityPub?
@Techaltar regarding the interoperability between different social media models eg. Misskey, Mastodon and Lemmy. Is interoperability even a good thing we should want? I've been confused multiple times by posts here on my tusky app that i then found out were apparently posted on misskey and not mastodon and apparently that causes issues because the sites work differently. It's like wanting to display a lemmy post with its vast comment threads on mastodon where the interface isn't made for it..
@Techaltar are there plans from implementations to provide better quality filtering (that are configured by individual users)?
Some larger accounts (like @TechConnectify) said that they were struggling with filtering lower quality replies. I’ve seen some suggestions that look interesting and practical, e.g. filtering by number of followers, new accounts, comment replies, stars, etc.
@Techaltar Are there any plans to include tools in Mastodon that help democratize the organization of an instance? Tools the e.g. would let people vote on instance rules or whom not to federate with.
@Techaltar why aren't the number of Stars/Likes displayed? I see where boosts and replies seem to increment, but even those don't seem to get tallied every time.
@Techaltar there's a lot of calls to block any sort of corporate social media sites from connecting meaningfully to the Fediverse. How likely are these to succeed?
