@rbreich Trump embraces political violence and the people who commit it.

Pardoning and saluting people who commit political violence shows dangerous extremism.

Trump is only running for President to help himself, reward his friends, and punish his enemies. Trump pledges to pardon violent criminals before helping the rest of us.

@rbreich Why are we still posing this as a question?

The answer is yes. It has been obviously for years now.

@rbreich YES! He's a fascist! He's been a sleaze bag his entire life. He's also a buffoon and borderline illiterate.

@rbreich There is more to fascism than an authoritarian leader who will do what must be done. Fascism is an economic system that organizes the society as a single organism. It organizes the workers and their managers in corporations, basically unions but based on class collaboration not class conflict. Another part of the fascist system is a large public sector to take care of the people, fascist italy had an extremely large public sector second only to the USSR. The other component of fascism is collectivism, the idea that the individual is subordinate to the collective, and that collectives must be equal, which requires that some groups be uplifted and others crushed without regard for the individuals in those groups. In many ways fascism is just honest socialism. The final component is the fusion of corporations and the state.

@rbreich I'm sharing this video widely and I hope everyone reading this is doing the same.

I wasn't aware of the major differences between authoritarianism and fascism - thank you for the accessible education.

Y'all know what to do now. Know how to IDENTIFY FASCISM, and CALL IT OUT when you see it :progress:

Let's see, using Umberto Eco's typical elements of fascism, Trump and today's Republican Party hit them all.

    Trump is a fascist.

The Republican Party is a fascist political party.

    1. A syncretic cult of tradition (think Q-anon)
    2. Rejection of the modern world
    3. Cult of action for action's sake (thinking is effeminate and weak)
    4. Disagreement is treason (no analytical criticism allowed)
    5. Fear of difference (racist by definition)
    6. Appeal to social frustration
    7. Obsession with plots & conspiracies
    8. The enemy is both weak and strong (humiliated by enemies' wealth & power, but convinced they can be destroyed)
    9. Pacifism or compromise is treason; life is permanent warfare
    10. Contempt for the weak
    11. Everyone is educated to become a hero, and heroes crave death
    12. Machismo (transfer of will to power to sexual matters), disdain for women, intolerance of nonstandard sexual habits
    13. Selective populism (individuals have no rights; The Leader interprets the "will" of the people)
    14. Newspeak (Lingua Tertii Imperii); an impoverished vocabulary and elementary syntax

@rbreich Stop with the click bait. He said he "won't be a dictator, except for day one. We're gonna close the borders and drill, drill, drill." I understand taking Trump out of context is one of your only sources of content, but at least be honest.

@rbreich No, Trump is a deflector. He knows he has problems and the only way he was gonna hide in plain sight from his problems and get away was by achieving the highest office in the land. Within that capacity, he would be untouchable. Who really wants to send a former American president to prison? There is no precedent for that and he knows it would be a bad look.

@rbreich Yes. Trump is most certainly a fascist.

If Americans allow the fascist to become president again he will also be a dictator

Trump called for violence when he loses. "A bloodbath." His campaign said, "Look at the context."

Sure. Does anyone think that Trump won't suppress voting, corrupt state election officials, and deny every unfavorable result?

Who here thinks Trump won't stage another bloody insurrection when he loses the election?

Nobody? OK. Can we stop pretending?
