@bookstodon My #review of Stars of Chaos (Sha Po Lang) Vol. 2 by priest is now live! This volume builds on both the relationship of the leads and the worldbuilding as a whole, making for a VERY entertaining read.
BTW the discord server I’m in is starting a reread of Guardian by priest this Sunday! If you want to join, dm @ DisciplesOfZZS on the bird app for an invite. It’s 5 chapters a week with discussion questions and sometimes polls or other activities. #danmei
@bookstodon My #review of Stars of Chaos/Sha Po Lang Vol. 1 by priest has gone live! Enjoyed this more than MDZS, I have to say, mostly because of the worldbuilding and the plot.
Have just begun watching “The Spirealm” with Huang Junjie and Xia Zhiguang 🌸 It’s not my usual genre, but since it is perhaps a Chinese BL or danmei, it is rather remarkable that is is airing at all. The idea is that people are drawn into a computer game where they can die in the real world if they die in the game. There is suspense and a delicate chemistry between the leads.
I've read #mdzs#svsss and now #tgcf and I have to say: So far I find Xie Lian the most interesting character of them all. Not to say the others are bad. It's just that Xie Lian is so fascinating! #mxtx#danmei
Just finished reading first volume of “Thousand Autumns” by Meng Xi Shi 🌸 It is an information dense first book in a series that mixes the martial world with actual Chinese history. The main couple have met & there’s lots of foreshadowing + one-sided banter but no romance.
The characterization of Shen Qiao & Yan Wushi gives them both distinct personalities that spark off each other. Plot & character development are intricately woven together.
Just read chapter 17 of volume 1 in “Thousand Autumns” 🌸 The relationships between characters are deepening. Chen Gong’s betrayal of Shen Qiao was resonant, because it was a logical consequence of who he was but it is still sad that he made that decision.
The companionship between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi is fun to follow. They are very different people which makes for a good, thematic dynamic. Well written!
Just finished volume 4 of “The Husky + his White Cat Shizun” 🌸 This volume was much easier to read, bc it focused on the developing relationship between Mo Ran + Chu Wanning although on the surface it didn’t really develop at all.
Mo Ran is restraining himself in this lifetime + Chu Wanning is allowing himself to accept that he has feelings for his disciple. Glimpses of the scene from their past life keeps seeping into this one, informing what’s going on.
@geraineon So after reading a Doris Lessing book about cats, I’ve returned to the #Danmei genre. I’ve chosen one of your recommendations, namely “Thousand Autumns”.
After the Husky books, I thought it might make a nice change to read a series with a more historical focus. I’ve only read a few chapters but it is already possible to tell that they are well written and that the characterization looks to be round.
Thanks for helping me decide which series to begin reading…
Just finished chapter 5 of "Guardian: Zhen Hun", volume 1 by priest 🌸 Thought I would try a danmei novel set in the present. The main couple have just met and there is already a strong undercurrent of attraction 😺 I love the speaking cat and the horror-inflected, police drama is done well. The characters feel real in a heightened version of reality.
Have just begun reading "Guardian" by Zhen Hun 🌸 After having finished reading 8 volumes of the "Heaven Official's Blessing" series, I opted for a change of pace. It is still danmei but it seems to be a mystery series with supernatural elements and set in modern times.
I'm enjoying reading for leisure again. My reading had become all work. Now I read for myself and am enjoying that my attention span is expanding...
Just finished reading the main story of "Heaven Official's Blessing" in volume 8 of the series 🌸 The conflict with the main villian has been resolved and after a time of ambiguity about the relationship between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, it ends in domestic bliss.
There were definitely some unexpected reveals along the way but the plot dovetails nicely with foreshadowing details being explained.
Just finished reading volume 4 of "Heaven Official's Blessing" 🌸 It's nice to follow the relationship between Xia Lian and Hua Cheng slowly evolve but in this volume it takes a backseat to many flashbacks and adventures along the way to Mount Tonglu. This series is a very slow burn romance but also a satisfying read.
