The drama's depiction of China is, well, problematic. How did the people of China react to it? In this issue I highlight what Chinese viewers think about the 3 Body Problem.

Have just begun watching “The Spirealm” with Huang Junjie and Xia Zhiguang 🌸 It’s not my usual genre, but since it is perhaps a Chinese BL or danmei, it is rather remarkable that is is airing at all. The idea is that people are drawn into a computer game where they can die in the real world if they die in the game. There is suspense and a delicate chemistry between the leads.

In happier cdrama news, you can now watch Spirealm (that Kaleidoscope of Death series) on Viki (if you are in the U.S.)

Hi all! Thought I'd do a public intro post now that things are mostly set up here! Long time fangirl, more recent few years have gotten into Chinese BL novels and haven't found my way out yet. Not specifically fannish on any particular novel but I go through them quick! The occasional when I have time to marathon through 40 eps in one weekend. 😂 Account is locked cos I post about RL a lot but feel free to add! I'll friend back! 中文和粤语都还行!

Was halfway watching which I enjoyed, surprisingly. (I think of the first arc as Meet Yourself, version 🤭.) I love our main couple's idyllic countryside life, the cooking scenes. It was a respite from their duties as bigwigs in the heavenly realm.
Most of all, I am liking the fact that we have a mature couple, acted by older actors in a genre dominated by mostly young actors.

Is anyone watching Blossoms in Adversity / 惜花芷? My irl cdrama bff is texting me picture after picture of Hu Yitian with his face cut up and I never claimed to be a strong person.

(Images marked sensitive for blood. Not too much, a nice amount.)

Hu Yitian in the rain, with an umbrella, and a scar if you squint, I guess.
Hu Yitian sitting gloomily in the dark, clutching a mask, blood running down one side of his face.
Side profile of Hu Yitian with blood all down one cheek, very artistic, very atmospheric, approve.

I watched the first episode of the , starring today.

1930s Shanghai, that looks a lot like 1930s Chicago gangsters? Big budget? Big name stars? swoons

It's gonna be intense, I can tell already. It also seems to be setting up the backstory of how the Communist party was able to rise in China 100 years ago (from the Chinese Communist Party perspective), with a diligent, talented, poor handsome fella (Yibo) as protagonist. Fascinating.

Have decided to watch “Guess Who I Am” with Wang Ziqi and Zhang Yuxi 🌸 while I’m waiting for the next episodes of “In Blossom” to drop. There were more serious options out there, but I don’t want to be distracted by watching different, intense dramas at the same time. So I’m going for a rom-com.

Anyone else on here watching 's new on iQIYI yet?

I don't think all episodes are out yet. It sounds like it is based in the 1930s?

(I follow folks on bsky who are very excited about it.)

my dad is looking for more historical cdramas to watch, and I told him I'd see if I could find some recs for him.

he's looking for cdramas that are available to watch free online (eg on viki), he prefers historicals, he enjoys some fighting, and previous shows he's enjoyed include The Untamed, Nirvana in Fire, Imperial Coroner, and Who Rules the World.

For those of you who watch more tv than me, what would you suggest?

My dad loved old Chinese tales and used to tell me the stories. One of the ones I remember best is The Eight Immortals. Someone on Youtube described them as the "OG Chinese Avengers" and I was like, this is a perfect description of them. And each character is so iconic.

And I must've watched this 1985 version cos I remember the song so much!

Dream of Splendor is a historical romance drama that I absolutely adore. I love how it features a mature relationship between a beautiful couple, and that it also highlights the food and tea culture, music and art of the Song dynasty.

Of course he is going to use his last life force :akko_sad:

Aaaand the flower is gone :akko_mmh:

How did he miss that his fiancée was divorcing him? :akko_giggle:

The real victim here is the poor sword.

What, it ends just like that? Is there an epilogue or something? :blobfoxconfused:

Holy, they have a rock version of the main theme just for this scene? :akko_fingerguns:

"My men are everywhere around here", meanwhile said men were being slaughtered by Di Feisheng and the Sigu sect.

Does that mean that Shan Gu Dao is not really the heir of Naying? I bet the real descendant is Li Lianhua :sylveonsmug:

They were all killing each other a minute ago, but they took a break to solve a last mystery :anya_smug:

Dude is breaking down :zerotwoevillaugh:

Fang Duo Bin hasn't given up at being a detective yet :neofox_magnify:
