I’m interested in a lot of transit activism in N America but I swear people would think you’re a total weeb if you talk about transit in places with good transit. Trying to imagine talking to people in Singapore or Hong Kong or Seoul about.. loving trains

I was upset when I learned that Perlis (Malaysia's smallest state) is actually bigger than Singapore, because people often joked that Perlis could only fit 8 citizens and it broke my immersion knowing/recognising that Singapore isn't that small (hence, Perlis too) lmao.

    Gone down a rabbit hole trying to find videos that explains the whys of Cantonese slangs, and then some are kinda off tune to my ears (possible pronunciation drift and all).     There are more in the comments too. I don't see this in the comments but my grandma loved to say that she hoped her grandchildren will not "cross the bridge and pick up the planks" (gor kieu chau paan), which means you forget the goodness done to you and just benefit yourself (in this context, leave my grandma behind).

    “Key ultrashort dramas” — those with a budget of over 1 million yuan ($138,000) or touching on “special” themes — will be reviewed directly by the National Radio and Television Administration, while smaller projects will be screened by provincial authorities or streaming platforms.     OMG. The Sword Named No Way Out is tl-ed completely! I didn't realize another group has picked it up!

    It's by Huai Shang (probably most famous in EN danmei circles for Po Yun, Tun Hai), and i really enjoyed it up till ch 81 where it was dropped previously, and I felt that i couldn't recommend it because it was kinda a cliffhanger. Now I can! (No, I have not finished reading. I just found out)

It's a pretty interesting because like the person who made the video, i started playing games really early in my life (Super Mario, StarCraft 1, lots of jrpg, etc.) so a lot of things are very intuitive to me and it only occurred to me that it's not intuitive to everyone when i started gaming with a few friends, one of them didn't grow up on games

    That wikihow article kinda reminds me of fruit crimes I've watched, of ppl teaching other ppl (wrongly) on how to eat some tropical fruits.

    (I am not saying that wikihow on how to eat sunflower seeds is wrong - you can do that but it's not the most common way of eating. Those fruit videos are DEFINITELY inefficient though)

    Anyway, Indonesian has a lot of Dutch loanwords, and so does Javanese. In case of "kelar" it also exists in Indonesian. However, these two languages sometimes borrow differently.

    E.g. "pit" (bicycles) from Dutch "fiets" is commonly "sepeda" (from French "velocipede") in Indonesian ("kereta angin" is less common).

    "Sepur" (train) in Javanese from Dutch "spoor" (railway tracks) is "kereta api" in Indonesian. "Sepur" in Indonesian retains the original meaning of railway tracks.
