I didn't used to be a "militant" #FOSS user, but I've been bitten too many times by companies with #proprietarysoftware. For example, #Reason DAW, #Zbrush - both companies that decided to say fuck you to perpetual licenses. Now, I try to avoid any proprietary application. I recently went looking for a good notes app and everyone loves #Obsidian. As soon as I saw it was closed source, I noped out and settled on #Joplin. These companies will eventually fuck over customers so I won't waste my time.
So happy I took the time to learn #Dataview. It's going to be revolutionary for my vault. It'll help me create main topic pages to keep track of my notes. I used to manually link every note to a "MOC" but I kept forgetting and found it tedious. This is going to be a "leave it and let grow" thing, and it suits my #ADHD brain immensely lol.
And how great it is that the #Obsidian anticipated our annoyance with YAML and come up with the properties feature? Genius.
@liztai Your dataviews wil evolve and that might be a challenge when you have dataviews in your templates that you then want to update as well.
My solution to that is to put a #DataviewJS snippet in the template that loads the another note (call it a #Dataview#template where the actual Dataview lives.
@cobweb I am curious too. By default you can set a size like this ![[image.png|pixels]]
Aligning an #image can be done using a #CSS like below and embed it like this ![[image.png#center|300]] but it’s a hassle to edit text along side the image when not in source mode.
Anyone have a recommended workflow for creating a #blog using #selfhosting? I want to get things i learned about #SoftwareEngineering & #softwaredevelopment out of my brain. My current thought is use #obsidian to write and generate a static site with #hugo (@gohugoio). Any thoughts/experience are appreciated!

Trying to figure a way for Tasks and checklists to coexist in Obsidian. The Tasks plugin is handy because when you mark things complete it adds a date. There are reasons I like this. However, there are times when I might want a check list (e.g., Packing LIst) where I wouldn't care about the completion date just that the item is in my bag. #Obsidian@obsidianmd
@amerpie@techlifeweb@obsidianmd I’ve stuck to Omnifocus and don’t really integrate it much. In GTD terms, the action lists are in OF, the supporting material in #obsidian. (Mostly: some detailed action lists may be in obsidian, but I tend to consider the action there to be “spend a time slot building features from the feature list”.)

Update: I now have a (real) outline for my dissertation! I used the #Canvas in #Obsidian to visualize it. Very useful (and a free alternative to #Scrintal!)

Nach einem Windows-Update heute Morgen funktioniert mein @obsidian nicht mehr. Meeehh. Ich habe noch keine Idee, wie das zu fixen wäre.
Was bin ich froh, dass ich mich für ein System entschieden habe, das mit #Markdown-Dateien arbeitet. So kann ich - leicht eingeschränkt - weiterarbeiten, bis das #Obsidian-Problem gelöst ist.
@obsidianmd Friends, I'm relatively new to #Obsidian Sync, and have just run into a confusing issue. On iOS I want to switch back and forth between two vaults. Is this even a thing??
It appears to be making me download the entire BIG vault again, when I close the second vault and reopen the first.
I've checked the forum and found someone in 2021 with the same issue, but that's all, and no solution given.
