Dear tech blogs. Please stop.
These are massive trillion+ dollar megacorporations.
There’s no “war”, no need to choose sides. No flame wars to be had to take more of our money.
These are appliances to get stuff done or enjoy for fun.
Period.
Vielen Dank! ❤️
“The simplicity of HTML and CSS now feels like a radical act. To build a website with just these tools is a small protest against platform capitalism: a way to assert sustainability, independence, longevity.” — Jarrett Fuller
Jenny Erpenbeck opens #Spring 2024 with Sloughing Off One Skin, a haunting #ShortStory that explores truth and identity, translated by Michael Hofmann.
@bookstodon Over on the @fictionable#blog Caroline Lucas argues that in the face of division, we must tell "compelling, inspiring stories about what we can and must achieve together".
New #Blog post: Spending an Afternoon in the Sizewell Control Room Simulator
I'm a bit late in writing something, but @popey, @8none1, @sil got to spend an afternoon in the operations training centre at #Sizewell B #nuclear power station
As #Drupal7 is going to definitely die soon, I'm looking for simple and #secure blogging system to replace it and to host my #blog. After those years I see a plethora of #PHP based options.
As I've realised #Drupal/#WordPress grade #CMS is an overkill for my needs, it can be something more simple, less complex. Wysiwyg editor and automatic updates possibilities would be more than enough...
Part 2 of my #AtoZChallenge2024 reflection. I love the personal connection you find with #coins & the community. I wrote most of the posts in the weeks prior to the #AtoZChallenge. This was fortuitous as my mother passed away early in April. But those connections made it a joy to re-read each post & share it. Today's #coin is from day "D", #Denmark, & a park open when my ancesters lived there: https://coinofnote.com/25-ore-token-denmark-dyrehavsbakken/
The BioNavigators website has great #blog posts by Hannah LaMond, Sabrina Daglish, and Madeline Valentine. These posts do a wonderful job of discussing some hurdles in #STEM and #GraduateSchool. This time, though, we tried something different. We asked ChatGPT-3.5 to write about AI's uses, challenges, and ethics in #bioscience. Check out the post and let us know what you think.
Head for the @fictionable#blog – available in full without subscription – and find Peter Kuper waxing lyrical on #insects Dina Nayeri on what happens when #fiction turns to memoir, Naomi Wood on her top five #ShortStories and more…
Anyone have a recommended workflow for creating a #blog using #selfhosting? I want to get things i learned about #SoftwareEngineering & #softwaredevelopment out of my brain. My current thought is use #obsidian to write and generate a static site with #hugo (@gohugoio). Any thoughts/experience are appreciated!
