The ecosystem is evolving at a rapid pace. One project, , is making an ambitious effort to combine the Fediverse with the power of .

Have been looking at again, do you think we can build this:

The Open Media Network is a trust based, human moderated, project that builds a database shared across many peers (both and server). The project is more important for what it DOES NOT DO, than what it does do, using technology to build human networks. There are ONLY 5 main functions:

• Publish (object to a stream of objects) – to publish an object (text, image, link)

• Subscribe (to a stream of objects) – to a person or organization, a page, a group, a hashtag subject etc.

• Moderate (stream or object) – you can say I like/dislike (push/pull or yes/no) this etc you can comment.

• Rollback (stream) – you can remove from your flow (instance database) untrusted historical content by publishing flow/source/tag.

• Edit (meta data of object/stream) – you can edit the metadata in any site/instance/app you have a login on.

We would build in the moderation tools of the .

This is the back-end of the project to build a trust based, grassroots, semantic web. The front-end may be anything you like, for example regional-/city-/subject-based sites to a distributed archiving project

The data cauldron and the golden ladle. The technology we call the .

@witchescauldron Another platform to consider is which is coming together right now. (For example, I'm looking into porting my earlier proof of concept for a an LDP interface ( / ) to the new API, and then some apps.)

I think what you propose would be feasible, certainly worth looking into because the platform has some unique characteristics and I think now would be the perfect time to start building for it. Fully autonomous .

What is We Distribute, exactly? 🤔

We Distribute is a CC-licensed open media project. It serves as a people-focused tech publication, with the goal of informing and educating people about three things:

  1. Decentralized Communications
  2. User empowerment
  3. The future of the Internet

Most of what we do involves reporting on the day-to-day developments of the . In fact, our articles are ActivityPub-enabled, and integrate directly into the network.

However, the Social Web / Decentralized Social movement involves far more efforts and technologies that we think are also worth reporting on: , , , , , and all bring interesting pieces to the puzzle.

Our ultimate goal is to showcase the ongoing efforts to change the shape and form of the Internet itself, at a grassroots level. Join us on this exciting journey.

@srosset is coming to and says:

All the FEPs are very interesting as simple ways to extend ActivityPub. I'm also naturally very interested by any subject around the interoperability between and (as developer). I'm also interested about how to use ActivityPub to bring Open to a social dimension (see this other project I've been contributing to: https://activitybadges.org)

If anyone's hiring a mid-level or associate software engineer (react / node.js / solid) remote (Germany), I highly encourage you to get in contact with @yesvirginia, who's just parted ways with Inrupt, where we worked together.

She's looking for her next role, must be remote, and minimum salary ~€75-80k.

She's not just a talented developer, but also a huge people person, often driving positive change, and is running for the Chair of the Solid CG.

Could a simpler path to be charted through OAuth/OIDC and the protocol? I think so!

I want my root digital identity and follow-contacts stored in a Solid pod, letting me log into all fediverse platforms via Solid-OIDC.

& et.al. should just provide the send/receive pipes, relegating the job of primary identity provider to the ID-centric protocol that is Solid.

I created a profile on Kbin (@danielhz) and a profile on Lemmy (@danielhz). I have now four Fediverse profiles. Why do I have four identities instead of one? To have only one, we need to decouple identities, data, and applications. Solid is trying to do this decoupling. Multiple applications can access data from a single POD. Of course, this requires a big architecture change, and it is challenging.

One of the most exciting tech developments at the moment is the advent of the web standard, which lets people "store their data securely in decentralized data stores called Pods. Pods are like secure personal web servers for your data."

Is it technically possible for to support the Solid standard? Or this would be something apps like should implement?
