/ Neo-Zionism’s Dirty Laundry

Regarding the brief comment about demographic engineering in , this issue is not a secret, though it is rarely discussed so blatantly in Israeli media, albeit Channel 14. One thing is certain: when you become comfortable demonizing Palestinians, it won't take long before you start demonizing other sectors in your society as well.

————

Original title of this report was: “Everything is kosher for the sake of Netanyahu: The disgusting statement of Channel 14 host against former Soviet Union immigrants”

Content:

Channel 14 host Boaz Golan criticized former minister Avigdor Lieberman: "He is constantly working to bring more and more gentiles here...another Ukrainian. They brought gentiles here and it's screwing up our demographics."

Harsh statements made last week on Channel 14 against immigrants from the former Soviet Union are causing an uproar in the sector, considered the largest in Israel. The comments were made by channel 14 host Boaz Golan, on the "Open Studio" program, referring to criticism of former minister Avigdor Lieberman, one of Prime Minister Netanyahu's fiercest critics.

Golan claimed that Lieberman acted to bring non-Jewish immigrants to Israel because he needed votes.

Among other things, Golan said, "He is constantly working to bring more and more gentiles here...another Ukrainian..." Later Golan said, "They brought gentiles here and it's screwing up our demographics...we need to act so that gentiles don't enter here and this remains a strong Jewish state."

Here is an English translation:

Activists from the Faith-Based Left Movement demonstrated yesterday (Friday) in Jerusalem against the desecration and obstruction of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The protest was joined by members of the Prayerful Jerusalem organization. The protest took place in front of the offices of the "Jewish Truth" NGO, demanding an end to the war in Gaza and allowing the transfer of humanitarian aid, while stopping the violent attacks, desecration and obstruction of aid trucks, escorted by a headquarters supported by the NGO. The protesters held flour sacks and banners that read "Starvation is a war crime" and "Stop bombing Gaza."

It should be noted that at the Faith-Based Left conference held last February at the Heichal Shlomo in Jerusalem, 11 discussion circles were held and only one was held behind closed doors with the participation of 13 religious reserve soldiers who served in Gaza, the North and the West Bank. They provided a detailed report on the extent of killing and destruction across the Strip, including the starvation of the Palestinian population.

In the invitation to yesterday's protest, the organizers wrote that the criminal actions of the settlers who attacked aid convoys to Gaza last week "contradict the Torah." "Therefore, every soul is obligated to cry out and warn against the atrocity being committed in Israel," they emphasized. Large police forces arrived at the protest site and during the event, arrested a young man wearing a shirt depicting the Palestinian flag.

/ Coalition Criticizes Meta's Lack of Transparency and Accountability in Content Moderation Amid Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

A coalition of Palestinian and global digital rights groups has expressed concerns over Meta's response regarding its content moderation practices during the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The coalition claims that Meta's response failed to provide sufficient transparency and concrete steps to identify and mitigate the negative human rights impacts of its policies and actions. Particular concerns were raised about the potential for over-moderation of Palestinian and Arabic content due to temporary safety measures, such as lowered automated moderation thresholds and algorithmic bias against Arabic language content.

Furthermore, the coalition accused Meta of failing to outline specific actions to prevent the spread of incitement to , especially from Israeli government officials and politicians, despite international orders and the recent provisional measures issued by the .

While welcoming Meta's efforts to allow accountability mechanisms to request extended content retention, the coalition criticized the exclusion of civil society organizations and the lack of transparency on retention timeframes, which could hinder investigations and accountability processes.

The coalition’s response concludes:

[…] Meta must demonstrate a genuine commitment to upholding human rights and protecting all voices on its platforms in these precarious times.

/ Israeli abuse of jailed Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti ‘amounts to torture’

Marwan Barghouti is a Palestinian politician and former leader of the al-Mustaqbal (The Future) Party. In April 2002, he was arrested by Israeli authorities on suspicion of involvement in several terrorist attacks. He was accused of ordering and participating in multiple murders, as well as being a member of a terrorist organization (the AMB). After a lengthy trial, he was convicted and sentenced to five life terms plus 40 years. His political philosophy combines Palestinian nationalism, secularism and democratic principles.

Human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have documented the abuses described in the article, and called for to take concrete steps to address the situation. However, despite international condemnation, the Israeli government has largely ignored these concerns and continued its policies.

[…] “What Barghouti has endured amounts to torture, but that has become standard across all detention facilities since 7 October,” said Tal Steiner, of the rights group the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel. The Israeli prison service did not respond when contacted for comment. Both PCATI and the International Committee of the Red Cross have been denied formerly routine visits to Israeli prisons since last October.
[…] Steiner added that PCATI collected 19 testimonies from prisoners describing physical assault, sexual or other types of humiliation as well as sleep, food and medical deprivation.
[…] “If this is how they allow themselves to treat high-profile prisoners like Barghouti, imagine what they do to detainees who don’t have the same profile,” she said, describing the overall level of abuse as “unprecedented”.

[…] Even the most beautiful kippah won't help you look less hypocritical. Just saying.

Ynet columnist seems to think Prince William is a hypocrite because… apparently he didn’t stick with the Jewish state during the genocide in Gaza.

She quips: […] When it comes to relations with Israel - the royal family definitely needs to work a little harder. With the outbreak of the [what Israel titles] “Iron Swords” War [which many see as a genocidal revenge attack], and after the horrific atrocities committed by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7th were exposed, Prince William and Kate Middleton, together with King Charles, rushed to condemn the horrific actions - but very quickly changed their approach.

And how? Well he dared to say this (translated back from Hebrew so probably different form the source):

[…] "I am concerned about the terrible human cost of the conflict in the Middle East since Hamas' attack on October 7th. Too many people have been killed, […] Like many others, I want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible. There is a need for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, it is critical that aid gets in and the captives are released."

Horrible person indeed. Funny she stops short of mentioning that the slaughter of thousands of Gazans (mostly women and children) in the hand of the that followed, might have had something to do with that.

Thought I should share the pain of going through this with someone 🤷🏽‍♂️…

@rjohnston very familiar to most Israelis … the demographic manipulation attempt started in the 1980s with PM Shamir … it didn’t end well for Israelis but incredibly well for the settlers and the right, since many of the ones that did stay are definitely not liberals. Their politicians are even worse.

There was an arrangement to prevent them from going straight to the US. I think the estimate in Israel was that a minimum of 30% are not Jewish at all. A friend of mine arrived in Israel because he married a Jewish girl, and that qualified him as well. Had he been a Palestinian, he wouldn’t have been allowed in.

If there’s such a thing as “birth right”, Palestinians are for sure the best qualified, not Russians.

/ There Are No Lights in War: We Need a Different Religious Language (Ariel Schwartz [January 16, 2024])

Ariel Schwartz comes from a right-wing, religious Zionist family, in the political dialing areas of Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. He studied at the Etzion Yeshiva, in southern Mount Hebron, and during his regular service in the settlements in the West Bank, he asked himself who those stateless Palestinians were, "who live under the daily rule of the IDF." These questions caused him to become a left-wing activist.

He tells […] "They took from me the thing most precious to me, my faith, and directed it against me. As religious people, we believe that our tradition demands a different moral stance, one that can restrain the war instead of fueling it."

[…] An example of this can be found in the recent words of R. Amihai Friedman, the rabbi of the Nahal brigade’s training base: “I sit and imagine that in these days there are no casualties, hostages, or injured,” he told his soldiers. “And the second I remove them from the screen, I’m left with what is maybe the happiest month in my life since I was born.”[1]

[…] R. Friedman’s words give rise to a harsh realization: around us is a religious world that is happy, in many respects, about the current war.

[…] Thus, for example, writes R. Yigal Levinstein in the pamphlet He Leaps Up Like a Lion: On the Exaltation of the Spirit and the Special Level of Life During Times of War that saw light in the situation: “The war is not a marginal thing, and we should not view it as a ‘mistake’ or a ‘mishap’ which we would have preferred to avoid. The war is a great thing and, at the end of the day, brings a great message to humanity on its wings.”[2]

[…] According to R. Levinstein, the greatness of the war is rooted in the fact that it is one of those extraordinary moments in which “the inner soul shines in all its vitality.” Indeed, for the individual, the war is a difficult event, but at the national level it calls forth great moments in which the people of Israel “reveals from within itself its mighty heights of life.”

[…] Widening segments of the contemporary religious community are seeking to wrap the war in a halo of enchantment and holiness and turn it pleasant, ideal, and even joyous from an emotional perspective. In furtherance of this aestheticization and idealization, there are those who seek to remove any ethical brakes from the war. They call for us not to differentiate between blood and blood and condone any action done in its framework. These conceptions treat the spirit of battle as the climax of the revelation of the human spirit, but within this, implicitly, it is as though they require war to happen again and again, so that this “spirit of battle” may be revealed. In light of this attempt, we must seek a different religious language―one that remembers that the Jewish horizon is not war but peace, that the goal of the Jewish nation’s existence on this land is not “to shorten the life of man but to lengthen,” and that ethical conduct even in times of war is the soul of our religious tradition.

While Israel's fascists are pushing for full occupation of Gaza and imposing a 'military rule’, Netanyahu is not saying no, and the army warns of dire consequences of such a plan

At the dramatic press conference he held the day before yesterday, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that he will not continue in his position if there is Israeli control over Gaza. Gallant believes that the current conduct has led to a situation where Israel is currently controlling the Strip, but this is a dangerous situation.

Since October I have been raising this issue in the Cabinet without receiving an answer. The end of the military operation is through political action," he warned.

These are the financial and administrative implications of 'martial rule' in Gaza.

NIS 20 billion in yearly operational costs

NIS 150 million for building an additional "corridor"

Reconstruction costs not included

  • Personnel

The sharp spike in the Israeli military censor's intervention in journalists' work in 2023 was mainly due to the war on Gaza. The censor blocked the publication of 613 articles and censored parts of 2,703 additional articles - which even by Israeli standards is a new record.

According to a report in Local Call (Sikha Mekomit) Intervention was especially high during the last quarter of the year. The censor cited security issues for the heightened censorship.

But the most stringent censorship in Israeli mainstream media remains self-censorship by journalists and editors choosing not to cover the impacts of the war on Gaza's civilian population.

Even worse for historians and researchers, in recent years, the censorship has also begun intervening in documents from the State Archives, as part of the digitization of the archives and uploading the documents to the internet. Local Call reporter says that in response to their request, it was reported that the censorship handled 2,962 documents, and that the "absolute majority" were approved for upload to the internet without intervention.

/ Netanyahu: The Palestinian Authority “supports terrorism, funds terrorism and educates for terrorism”

Nobody did more than to funnel money to the , the PA’s staunch enemy. Most countries in the world see the as a political authority who’s the legitimate representative of Palestinian aspirations for statehood, which in Netanyahu’s vocabulary means “terrorism”.

Netanyahu (who’s indicted for several corruption charges) responded to the statements of Defense Minister Gallant, and said: "After the terrible massacre, I instructed to destroy Hamas. IDF fighters and security forces are fighting for this. As long as Hamas remains, no other entity will govern Gaza - certainly not the Palestinian Authority."

He added that "80% of the Palestinians in the West Bank support the terrible massacre. The Palestinian Authority supports terrorism, funds terrorism and educates for terrorism. The first condition to pave the way for another entity is to eliminate Hamas and do so without excuses."

In his statements, though, he did not address the possibility of establishing a military government in the Strip.

Israel's attempt to criminalize discussing the , the displacement of Palestinians during its establishment in 1948, is deeply concerning. Labeling such discourse as incitement or support for terrorism poses a grave threat to acknowledging historical truths. For lasting peace in the region, there must be an open reckoning with the tragic events surrounding Israel's birth – events that by design led to the dispossession and suffering of the Palestinian people. This was not mere accident, but an ongoing mission that today’s neo-Zionist ideologues have molded into a [quasi-]religious crusade.

The path to reconciliation demands bringing these realities to light, especially among Israelis. Suppressing discussion of the 1948 violence and its enduring impacts will only entrench the injustices and prolong the conflict. True and lasting peace requires earnest dialogue, historical accounting, and a mutual understanding of the disproportionate losses borne by Palestinians. Silencing these narratives through criminalization is antithetical to the justice and healing that both peoples deserve.

/ ‘Instead of a scream’: the Palestinian artist who does a Gaza drawing every day

[…] Drawing and posting online daily became the only way to reassure my friends, after all communication and social media were cut but later partly restored. My drawings, in which I document the war with all its cruel scenes, have become the message through which I inform friends: “I am still alive.”

/ Settlers looted and desecrated food intended for Gaza in front of soldiers, peace activists were attacked, and two trucks were set on fire

Dozens of settlers and far-right Israelis looted yesterday the humanitarian aid trucks making their way to the Strip through the Tarqumiya crossing near Hebron. The humanitarian aid was blocked at two points in the area south and west of Hebron Hill - near the Tarqumiya checkpoint and near the Negohot settlement. After being blocked and looted, two trucks were set on fire near the Tarqumiya checkpoint.

B'Tselem stated that the looting continued for hours, "in front of soldiers and police officers, as well as security personnel at the crossing, who did not lift a finger to stop the desecration of food. This conduct by the Israeli authorities grossly violates the interim orders of the International Court of Justice, which demanded that Israel allow the supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza."

/ Israelis beat a Palestinian truck driver because they thought he was transporting aid to the Gaza Strip.

Israeli civilians stopped two trucks in the area of the Givaat Assaf settlement in the occupied West Bank and unloaded their contents, because they thought they were carrying aid to the Gaza Strip. These were regular Palestinian trade trucks, and after the settlers unloaded the goods from them - they set tires on fire and threw a stone that hit one of the drivers in the head. and Border Police forces are present at the scene.

#Palestine / Right-wing Israeli ministers call to reoccupy Gaza and push for the transfer of Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip

Thousands of Israelis joined a march on the so called Israeli “Independence Day”, calling for resettling the Gaza Strip and facilitating the transfer of Palestinians from Gaza. Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir spoke at the march advocating resettling Gaza with Israeli forces and settlers.

Ben-Gvir said the "true solution" is for Israel to "return to Gaza now" and to "encourage what he calls “voluntary emigration" of Gazans, concluding "It is moral!" An MK from the Religious Zionism party blamed the 2005 Israeli withdrawal from Gaza for recent violence, stating "The responsibility for the October 7 massacre lies with those who expelled the Jews from Gush Katif."

“Israeli northern city Haifa has long been touted as an Arab-Jewish mixed city. But tours following the lives of Palestinians living there before the establishment of Israel tell a more detailed reality.” Of 70,000 Palestinians, only 4,000 remained. Palestinians were expelled and someone else would just take over their houses and their belongings. Just like that….

@JamesTown_ @GhostOnTheHalfShell @JapanProf @palestine Jewish people never saw themselves as a nation ever before . The idea was absurd and Zionism struggled to get any impact until WWII. If Indigeneity was about who lived on a land 3000 years ago, most countries today would not have a right to exist. Up to 1948 it wasn’t Jews who lived in Palestine, it was Palestinians, which included some Jews. What ever came from Eastern Europe since the second half of the 19th century was mostly Russians who didn’t make it to North America like the 99% who did. Up until the end of WWI, thanks to capitulations with the Ottoman Empire, they could relatively easily go to Palestine, if the Russians let them leave the pale of settlement. It had nothing to do with a Jewish nation or anything close to that.

/ Union Theological Seminary trustees endorse divestment from ‘companies profiting from the war in Palestine’

[...] “Our investment policies will continue to adapt, guided by our values, to strengthen the resolve that undergirds our decision today, [...] We do not take this step lightly, and we do so with all humility, recognizing that our work on the global stage is far from finished. Although our investments in the war in Palestine are small because our previous, strong anti-armament screens are robust, we hope that our action today will bring needed pressure to bear to stop the killing and find a peaceful future for all.”

South Africa will present its arguments, and tomorrow the Israeli delegation will do so between 10 AM and 12:00 PM.

Israeli media is estimating that there is a possibility that the Court will respond to South Africa's request and issue a order. However, the prevailing view is that Israel will not obey such an order.
