I believe Flipboard will prove to be a counterweight to Threads and a prime location for news & pundits (as #Meta does not really desire the latter two on their platforms).
A lot of people have insisted #Meta isn't getting involved with the #Fediverse to embrace, extend and extinguish it...
... but even before fully implementing Fediverse interoperability in #Threads they're already talking openly about changing its protocols to add features like monetization. 🤔
And aware, no doubt, that quote posts are a divisive, hot-button issue, they're already building into #Threads not only quote post functionality but more refined controls for it than I know of anywhere in the #Fediverse — a feature bound to attract attention and make people consider choosing Threads in preference to other Fediverse software that doesn't offer the same functionality.

Meta has announced that Batman: Arkham Shadow will be the first big exclusive game for its Quest 3 VR headset.
It’s an important step forward for the device. As @engadget reports: “One of the main reasons it has been difficult to recommend the $500 Quest 3 VR headset over the $200 Quest 2 is a lack of exclusive titles, as most games have to support both models. This means we haven’t really seen the power of the Quest 3 yet, but the tides are turning.”

Full details of the investigation are expected later this week, but concerns have reportedly been raised about “deceptive advertising and political content” on Meta’s platforms. EU officials are also unhappy about Meta’s plan to shut down CrowdTangle in August, a move the researchers and fact checkers who use the tool have called a “direct threat to election integrity efforts around the world.”
TikTok CEO #ShouZiChew has said the company will take the fight against the new law to the courts, but some experts believe that for the #US#SupremeCourt, national security considerations could outweigh #FreeSpeech protection.
The board notes that in all three cases, #Meta found that the posts didn’t violate its policies around promoting #violence, #HateSpeech or #TerroristContent. An der Wall Street haben sich die Anlegerinnen und Anleger zugeknöpft gezeigt. Überraschend schwache Konjunkturdaten und Zahlen aus dem Tech-Sektor sorgten für Ernüchterung. Auch der DAX schloss schwächer.
Schwache US-Vorgaben haben heute den deutschen Aktienmarkt belastet. Zudem fielen heimische Quartalsberichte gemischt aus. Der DAX rutschte wieder unter die Marke von 18.000 Punkten.
Verluste im US-Technologiesektor, aber auch ein überraschend schwaches US-Wirtschaftswachstum dämpfen die Stimmung am Aktienmarkt. Der DAX weitet seine Verluste am Nachmittag aus.

Can you imagine what the #Fediverse would look like now if the response to Gab had been "Admins don't need to block these instances, individual users can just choose whether or not to apply a user-level block (mute) themselves"?
And #Meta is even more corrosive than Gab. Gab users just posted a barrage of hate and unpleasantness. Meta is commercially incentivised to destroy what some people are inviting it to into.
