One impact of COVID that we don’t talk about enough is how people are avoiding medical care because of lack of precautions like masking in healthcare settings. This doesn’t show up as COVID deaths or hospitalizations but delays in screening, diagnosis, and treatment increases the mortality rate of other diseases like cancer.

New York Times: Two N95 Companies Shut Down, as an Era Ends

This is such a huge fail. We need to make high quality masks more accessible to everyone long-term to protect people from the ongoing threats of COVID, respiratory viruses, and climate change.

Thanks to @ProjectN95 and everyone else who has done a heroic job getting high quality masks to people who need them over the last few years. Shame on the government for not doing more to support your critical efforts!

When someone says “sorry to hear that” in response to sad or painful news is that empathic/compassionate or is it self centred and the speaker is just sad they have had to hear the news ?

"he'll be a burden on the state" good; fuck the state if that's how it views autistic people; tear the whole thing down and build something better in its place

also she should've kept that comment of her vomiting as a reaction to her son being diagnosed with autism to herself; it's ableist as hell

also the author of the article didn't include any quotes from or pictures of any autistic people; it would've been better to see what oliver and other autistic people had to say about the situation

also the article mentions "with autism" instead of autistic; i think most autistic people prefer the word "autistic" over the phrase "with autism"

i'm tired of autism parents (a.k.a. allistic/non-autistic parents of autistic children) speaking over autistic people instead of letting us speak for ourselves

and i'm tired of allistic authors writing about what allistic people have to say about autism instead of talking to autistic people to see what we have to say about it
