@GottaLaff This is suspect to me for Long Island. But different time and place in NY it's not entirely odd, at least in the 1950's & early-1960's Upstate sheriffs deputized locals. My father, uncle, and grandfather were hunters and said they were deputized with just a little slip of paper to help control feral dogs if they encountered them in the woods and fields. This sounds different.
