Society pathologizes autistic "special interests" which we use to self-regulate. It also mocks us.

Everyone deserves to have their passions respected and valued, especially when they are essential for our wellbeing.

Autism is a disability.

This isn't controversial.

It doesn't make us morally despicable.

The non-disabled (and their allies) wish disabled people would simply stop existing.

That we would just die.

Disability threatens the core of the non-disabled weltanschauung

I often see young autistic folks worrying about the concept of having children, knowing they will likely be autistic too.

@theautisticcoach Do you have anything addressing this?

Having recently chosen to have another child, knowing full well the child will be neurodivergent like his parents and most likely autistic like his dad and brothers, I think there room for discussion about autistic folks having a right to exist, to have a family like themselves, are worthy like anyone else.

theautisticcoach ,
@theautisticcoach@neurodifferent.me avatar

@Erithorn absolutely. Of course, a lot of this comes from our own experience which has been horribly difficult as well as internalized ableism. I think everyone needs to make their own decisions. None of those are easy.

Shitting on disabled people who are forced to work under our system of Capitalism in order to literally survive, screaming “omg hypocrite!”, and failing to address systematic issues, isn’t the the dunk you think it is.

What’s worse is when it comes from OTHER disabled people - who think somehow that disbaled folx who cannot live on, or cannot receive, disability benefits (or live off their rich families and don’t need to work) are somewhat “worth less” or are “less disabled”

Autistic masking leads to significant harm to an human's sense of identity & mental health

It is a survival strategy that forces us to prioritize NT expectations over authentic self-expression, often leading to profound self-alienation & diminished self-worth.

The Autism Industry must paint humans in a certain light in order to justify their products and abuse.

Those of us who believe in the Neurodiversity Paradigm are a threat to their commodification of our bodies and minds.

When an human shares their life and thoughts with you, it’s because they like you, feel safe with you, trust you.

If you use that opportunity to make them feel small, refer to them as self-centered, or reject them, you really don’t know the first thing ✔️

Our emotions tell us a lot about what’s happening in our lives.

Because of people telling us that we emote wrong and alexithymia, however, we lose touch with them. Then we get bullied for being “emotionless”

How do you get in touch with your emotions?

Masking in folx isn’t just hiding who we are.

It’s a response to societal demands for conformity.
