Urgent #translation job: looking for someone who can translate ~200 words of Steam page copy from English into #Chinese, before 15:00 CEST on Thursday 9th May. Paid at a good rate, obviously.
ok I managed to disable ipv6 and get the Haskell compiler installed, but still... am not anywhere near figuring out how to install espial. Also, am getting a little-- I mean. I know this is probably intended for people more knowledgeable than me. But I feel like I'm mostly at a point where I can follow instructions wrt Linux systems! And it seems like maybe some important parts of the instructions are missing? Like, the "download espial" part? Sure, I guess that's implied, but like... idk getting bit of a draw the rest of the fucking owl vibe from this readme
@geraineon@gekidasa@dppunforth there was the controversy about the MDZS manhua translation, too - yilin wang wrote about that somewhere, it's probably easy to find but my brain is burnt up from work right now. 😅
i do hope they've improved now!! i'm glad to hear you think they have, Mura; I haven't been keeping up well enough to judge.
@geraineon I mean, lions eat cabbage? That's more surprising. I think my fingers have just decided that if I'm typing an animal these days, 9/10 chance it's a dragon.
I think the reason why 2ha didn't click with me is because when I read it, I immediately thought, "aha, wife chasing crematorium" but it doesn't go all the way as trash as I want it to be 🤔
@geraineon it was definitely my first wife chasing crematorium book! I thought it was... not trashy, necessarily, but A LOT in a very enjoyable way. It was also my first time reading along with a book club, which increased the fun.
Now I have to find your post about trashy webnovels you liked, because I vaguely meant to copy the titles but did not.
@geraineon you're going to laugh at me, but I think I don't read a lot of 'hang your brain up at the door' kind of stories? I like at least a little bit of chewiness for my brain. Melodrama is good, though!
I'm going to check out both of these and I'll let you know what I think :D
Conclusion from a recent fav danmei poll in my cdrama discord group: turns out we all thought everyone else liked mxtx works best when actually, nobody's top three danmei is mxtx 😂
@geraineon@xieliansbignaturals@Sonaapareeya the little girl in the original Jurassic Park movie got cast on the spot after the director met her at a party and asked her to scream for him, so maybe there have been some strange and uncomfortable events at cdrama industry parties 😂
@geraineon@soph_sol@xieliansbignaturals@Sonaapareeya Cave With Old Martial Arts Scripture did not confuse me, but thrilled me to bits when I realised just how frequent a trope it is. Sinkholes? No, China is basically a sponge from all these old martial arts scripture caves and I love it
It's funny because I just mentioned it in an earlier post but my plan this year is to translate the Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Oberstein Side Story stage play
It will be a great JP practice
Maybe more ppl will get into LoGH IDK
Other than that, maybe actually write more in that LoGH AU I started with a friend.
No. 1 has not started yet but a friend managed to acquire the DVD for me, so hey, step 1, get a better version if it, done (I have access to a copy but it's quite LQ)
@geraineon the first invoice i got from my Chinese teacher had the reference number 1488 and i did a full doubletake when I saw it. 😅 it was obviously not a dogwhistle, haha.
(14 refers to 'the fourteen words', which is a neonazi slogan.)
@umadoshi@geraineon I’ve seen the Mystic Nine movie that Zhu Zanjin was in (it was GREAT but should have been 20-30 minutes longer to fit all that plot in) and read the official translation of the first book, that’s all so far. Except for everything I’ve absorbed by proximity and the occasional fic, which is quite a lot at this point. 😄
@geraineon thank you, too! I’ve been trying to broaden my danmei horizons since finishing MDZS in 2020, to be honest, but (1) long books means it takes ages to read each one, and (2) if no one else has read a particular book, there’s not so much fun in talking about it. (Also I’ve been reading Jin Yong novels in between, and they are just as long and just as unpopular on EN socmed, sigh.) It’s really great having more people to talk to and more diversity of novels to talk about!
@geraineon@dppunforth ooh, that does sound great! I guess the only transmigration book with non-transmigrator POV I’ve read is You Yao/Are You Okay?, but that’s not a romance. 🤔
