With the speedy settlement of vs , it does seem like the project was basically asking for it by flaunting the piracy of games not even released.
Sad for members of community that abide by better ethics than the ones for .

Also reminds me of shutting down because it didn't play nice with modded games and devs got harassed by the players, shame it wasn't the cheats that got shut down instead 😡

Request for errors on fedia.io

Hi all. I was recently made aware that people have been getting error 429's and other error 500's when visiting fedia.io. My hope/expectation is that those will no longer happen now that I've moved back to a bare metal install, but if you do experience that, please comment below, or if that doesn't work, send me an emai to...

Got an error 500 the other day when trying to visit /m/theonion@midwest.social, what was strange was that it was not rendered "within" the context of site UI but I was shown a totally white page bereft of any decorations except the error message on the top left (first time I ever saw this).

Got an error 500 just now from replying to a message, it was a typical error 500 taking up the main body column on the site (appeared to be logged out and all), and then returned to normal after refreshing.

EDIT: Just tried out spoiler syntax for the first time to update a new thread and submitting the edit also gave me a regular error 500. Edit didn't go through and I had to go back to resubmit.

Okay not an error 429 or 500 this time and just some noncommittal Error with no real message in a logged-out UI (that also returns to normal upon refresh) that I once again encountered for the first time.

I upvoted this very post, e-five's comment, and then your reply in rapid succession. The first and last actions went through, but there was a circle indicator beside the "More" option on e-five's comment and the page ultimately loaded https://fedia.io/ecf/3871174?choice=1 and thus the error page. We're both on the same instance and I shouldn't be blocking them or running any script that should mess with upvoting btw

After going back from the error page to submit this comment, hit submit button only to be redirected to
https://fedia.io/m/fedia/t/552719/-/comment without the comment having posted. I find the page usually needs to refresh to send a message but this was the first time I ended up on a different page when trying to write something?

The explanation of what happened makes sense, but indeed it's hard to say how it's happening. My internet speed is decent so I'm certain everything on the page must have loaded by the time I started clicking. I don't disable JS, and the only extension I have active is one for grouping tabs because I happen to access Fedia on my "side" browser, so not even an adblocker. Blocking nothing at the router level either so not sure how requests could have failed :/

Former editor at Science Fiction World, Chi Hui, reveals bullying, misogyny, stealing of wages and credits, and more at the magazine

Reading Diane Lacey's open letter about the (self-)censorship scandal of the Hugo Awards, the impetus of collusion/slating from Chinese publishers stood out. zionius actually dug further and presented evidence that the guilty party appeared to be Science Fiction World, which was involved in the Worldcon. So I thought I'd type up...

Nice, I was just back from being mystified at this comment chain as people seemed to be mixing up the mbin instances, hope the maintenance makes Fedia easier to use regardless of whether folks were planning on landing here lol

From what I'm getting from wincentral's previous articles, the lingo sprinkled throughout their coverage have meanings per the below:

  • "Hudson Valley" is the upcoming Windows client (GUI), previously "Next Valley"?
  • "Germanium" is the Windows platform already in Canary/Dev channel (kernel), which will be version 24H2
  • "Windows 12" is still what they're calling the next major Windows product/OS release (not feature update)

...so at this point in time, Hudson Valley + some element after germanium might be what is considered Windows 12?

Shower thought: if Germanium is just the platform name for Windows 11 ver 24H2, and Win12 doubles down even more on being internet-connected/AI-focussed, its codename truly has the potential to live up to the "arse"nic name 🤪

Didn't submit this crazy piece immediately because I just had to read up on the case a little bit more over the weekend and Canada's figure skating scandal right now seems to be handled just as poorly as with hockey. But also since it was a bit late and yet the article's contents have yet to be updated, the ISU is clearly taking its sweet time to conjure up an explanation for why Canada wasn't awarded bronze ╰(艹皿艹 )

Toronto's not alone in looking at property tax hikes. These municipalities are too ( www.cbc.ca )

Toronto is not alone in looking at a substantial property tax increase to ease budgetary pressures this year. Other municipalities are considering or have approved tax increases and at least one is asking for the Ontario government for help....

As I read the article, I saw the Bonjour Montréal ad pop up, and this is also with TV showing the Destination Québec cité ad campaign too. A covert operation to push tourism with the goal of interprovincial migration to get away from the property taxes?

Last week I got this weird piece relayed to me about how has supposedly been rigging elections and engaging in union busting since 20 years ago. Looking into it a bit more – it was actually fabricating safety tests for ~30 years out of its 110 years of history. Thinking about how only ~70 of those 110 years happened under the current name, it does make one wonder if the previous factoid would come across as worse or not...

Pretty wild for a pretty standard move to clear out some inventory and do some common decency at the same time to erupt into something so controversial Canada Goose ended up having to filter the barrage of comments going their way. Must be analogous to killing two birds with one stone to deform into some stoning execution instead.

Haven't gotten to try this myself as the insider versions have been rather unstable for me lately, but "Super Drag and Drop" not only is quite a mouthful but invites confusion when there is already a Drop feature in place. Hope the naming can be mulled over a bit more.

I wonder if this is a result of some similar functionality being brought over from Edge on Android? The functionality of highlighting a search term and sliding up for an overlay showing results and previewing the page without opening a new tab actually came in pretty handy.

First voice access and now print, we're getting to see more and more changes to W11 in the finer aspects of productivity.

Now this is less about physical printers but - one of the buggiest experiences I had on W11 was using the built-in save to PDF feature, which was shockingly slow as it was somehow configured to convert webpages to images first before generating the file, resulting in large and unsearchable PDFs. Unsure of whether this was supposed to be intended behaviour as this print option made it out of WIP, but I'm going to hope WPP gets tested a bit more extensively by the print team lest it ends up spewing out unusable results too 🫠

(BUG) cannot add to settings»blocked»domains

There is no option to add blocks of any sort (mag/user/domain) from settings, so it's more likely to be intentionally designed that way, i.e. you cannot add nor see a note on a user by going to their page either, you can only hover.

From how I understand it, you cannot block an instance entirely by blocking a domain i.e. fedia.io/d/lemm.ee, what's blocked would be hosted content like lemm.ee/pictrs/..../[file] and not some link posted to lemm.ee/c/abc, you will have to block from the magazine page i.e. fedia.io/m/abc@lemm.ee to get rid of them one by one. Domain blocking is probably intended for sites i.e. fedia.io/d/www-bbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org

EDIT:

I still want to see comments from lemmy.world users.

I think this is achievable via visiting fedia.io/d/lemmy.world/comments if you're looking for a stream of any and all comments (not just replies to your own threads/posts), not completely certain though!

Seeing no ''index.php'' in URLs for mbin's (flagship?) instance here in the form of https://kbin.melroy.org/m/updates/microblog nor for any kbin ones, but they're coming up in Fedia i.e. https://fedia.io/index.php/m/updates@kbin.melroy.org/microblog

Edit: and now it's resolved here but I'm seeing it manifest on kbin.social??

I get it was a joint decision, but NuScale ending their project and trying to portray this as a positive development was quite the sight. What's the point of being "industry-leading" and "well-positioned" if not to lead something with that position.

Looking into jv's posts a bit more, someone currently employed at a8c floated the idea of switching it over to use the WP backend, and the most recent development is that it'll be running on a skeleton crew and still hemorrhaging money.
