3°C is a political choice. Future generations will think very poorly of us.

@davidho Older people will become outcasts over this, and I can't blame the younger generations. "Why didn't you stop it when it was still possible?" This question will haunt us to our graves.

They will curse us.

@davidho in the end every democracy receives the leadership it deserves. Let's not push off responsibility for the worldwide climate collapse to some political leadership. Start owning the choices we make ... Every Day

@davidho @feijoa In a 3° world it's hard to believe there'd be enough civilisational continuity to merit any historical debates 🫠

@davidho Where are the longtermists now, I might ask? 🤔

@davidho We're not stopping at 3c.

@davidho what ”future generations”?

(Said with humour and sarcasm in an attempt to hide despair)

@davidho @breadandcircuses The survivors of humanity will indeed think very badly of this generation - they will be far fewer in number, & considerably poorer, than us, but I have a nasty suspicion that the available income & wealth will be not much, if at all, equally distributed than it is now.

Future generations will be asking why we believed a guy who smears orange makeup all over his face.

I refuse to take part in the creation of a future generation! ✊

@davidho I thought the goal was to have no future generations?

@davidho I‘ve given some thought about how they may call us.

And I think that they will use a name we already give us: „The Consumers“ .

Only that they will mean it in a different way, in the true way. Consumers of the natural world, consumers of other species, consumers of cultures which aren’t consumers, consumers of the future.

In his book Ishmael, Daniel Quinn calls those of our culture Takers.

A lot of the current generation think poorly of us

@davidho 3°C rise is terrifying. We’re playing Russian roulette with the entire ecosystem. The more we raise the temperature, the more likely we are to run into some as yet unanticipated tipping point.
What on earth can we do to make people see how serious this is?

leo_fie ,
@leo_fie@zirk.us avatar

@davidho Future generations will understand that we are in a coercive system that can not be changed by elections, mass protest, scientific consensus or the literal end of the world. We today don't blame the serf for feudalism, why blame the worker for global warming?

mrbrown ,
@mrbrown@mastodon.uno avatar

@davidho we must target ppm not temperature
