Wait until these people find out how climate change will increase immigration.

@davidho even with the state of search engines right now, it took me less than a minute to find out the think tank that produced this study "advocates for free markets" which is code for "capitalism is always a good thing"

@davidho No, we don't

@davidho wait until those others realize that Europe is getting hotter than their countries

@davidho this is the one thing that drives me the most mad about chomping moronic far right headbangers, they are simultaneously against immigration and refuse to believe in climate change, probably the single biggest driver of immigration will be climate change, if they think war-based migration was difficult, wait until half the world's population try to move north...

@davidho Always remember this “Force for Good” (whatever right wing oitfie they are, I don’t know) Outside COP26 in Glasgow:
Borders not Boilers.

@davidho

Climate refugees will number over a billion people by 2050 according to their own estimates.

https://www.zurich.com/en/media/magazine/2022/there-could-be-1-2-billion-climate-refugees-by-2050-here-s-what-you-need-to-know

And all because the fossil fuel industry bought 147 insurrectionists in Congress, 6 corrupt Supreme Court justices, and funded a disinformation campaign for 40 years.

@davidho even if they find out, they will see it as an extra reason to focus on closing borders over any other policy.

@davidho

That the climate change we are heading towards will "increase" immigration is optimistic.

It will produce levels of migration never before observed.

These levels of migration will most probably first destabilize and then end our democracies.

moirearty ,
@moirearty@mastodon.social avatar

@davidho the opposite will almost certainly occur, it’s the reason for fascistic policies being adopted by rich countries less impacted by climate.

We’re going to elect “bad” people and blame them for refusing migrants because the capacity economically and physically for the amount of future climate refugees isn’t there. But we’ll have someone to blame to offset guilt.

We’re not going to address climate in time and there will be widespread famine within a decade in many parts of the world.

@davidho

I keep having that same thought. In five or ten years we'll see migration on a massive scale. I used to think further out; not anymore. We are rapidly approaching Mother Nature's border now...

@davidho No, I don’t just want them to die at the Äquator

@davidho We will not make it until 2050, look at Brazil today.
