Alright, this is a thing--International Women's Day, which started as a socialist protest, and Women Who Rock, which is always one of my favorite subjects.

    1. Marcia Griffiths, reggae legend, an icon. One of the I-3s, who sang backup for Bob Marley back in the day, she went on to have a long solo career and still performs. Her voice is so sweet and she has lots of songs about love, relaxing in the island breeze, self-empowerment and so on. One of my favorites is "I Shall Sing."

    2. Skin, of the criminally underrated 90s grunge/punk/rock band Skunk Anansie. Her voice is so powerful, her range is incredible. "Charlie Big Potato" is a song I can listen to over and over (and that's high praise from me, a person who hates hearing the same song twice in one week usually).

    3. Courtney LaPlante, lead singer for metal band Spiritbox. Her growly vocals cause the guy who introduced me to Spiritbox to say "I didn't know women could make noises like that!" Recommend starting with "Rule of Nines."

    4. Megan Thee Stallion. What else needs to be said? Wordplay and rapping: impeccable. Dancing and twerking: astounding. Beats: live. Fashion sense: next level, especially given her open embrace of cosplay and anime fandom. All that, plus she survived being fucking shot at, attacked, and mocked by every dusty misogynist in hip hop. She writes one line and people respond with 5-minute diss tracks. She stays making people jealous and handles it all with aplomb. Oh yeah and she's queer and unashamed. This photo is from her performance at LA Pride last year.

Skin, a slim dark skinned Black woman, performing. She looks fierce as hell in a black feather shoulderpiece that extends beyond her body and above her bald head; she's scream-singing into a mic held in her hand and glancing photo left
Glamor shot of Courtney Laplante, a pale skinned white woman; she looks wistful and contemplative as she gazes into the distance just past the camera. She's wearing a crown of leaves and flowering, has a couple of small dried flowers decorating her cheeks, and her pinkish-red hair is blowing in the breeze
Megan Thee Stallion, a tall Black woman with long curly hair, stands onstage in front of a massive LGBTQIA pride flag screen, smiling, as 5 backup dancers stand behind her with their right hands raised in the air. She's dressed in a sheer black bodysuit that's stoned to the gods. It has a sparkly spiral bra and a similarly sparkly fringe at her waist
