OK, so many folks said the #kdrama#MyDearest really lived up to the hype, so I'm giving it a try.
I am surprised that I haven't seen any of Namkoong Min's work before. I have to say, after not-quite two episodes, I really love him? No wonder @bougiewonderland is such a big fan of his.
I loved the female lead in #HospitalPlaylist as Chu Min-ha (Chu Chu!) but I'm not quite sold on her yet in this role. As terrible as it sounds, I think she's too old (age 33 in real life) to be the unmarried dream girl of all those rich young men. The show does kinda comment on the age thing as the one kisaeng is 16, and the male lead says she is much too young.
(33 is not too old for our 45yo male lead, however.)
I want to know more about this lovely singing boy and how he is part of the male lead's crew. I didn't watch episode 2 as closely as I could have, so I think I will re-watch to see if they mentioned it. Or maybe it will be explained later, too...
I am a SUCKER for men gazing in that kind of astonished admiring loving gaze that the ML does at the FL. Absolute sucker. Yes, just hook me up to an IV of that, please. #kdrama#MyDearest
OK, he's definitely dreamy. He gazes lovingly at the feisty lady, gives her tools and direction to save herself while also trusting that she's capable to do it. And he is a damn fine swordsman. swoon #kdrama#MyDearest
There are often extra translation explanations - cultural context clues, etc - in the community-sourced subtitles on Viki, which I appreciate. They can often explain idioms, wordplay, etc.
But I don't know if this level of detail is even remotely pertinent to the story right now?
The thing is, she isn't in love with that other guy. She's in love with the image of herself being in love with that other guy. That perfect image of what that relationship could look like. A deep down wish that she could be someone in a perfect relationship like that, knowing that she's not.
She doesn't want to admit that she's messy and complicated and flawed and bright and colorful and brash. Or that she could be attracted to someone who is not the perfect rich scholar. To admit her feelings for Dearest are to admit that she herself is not perfect. She's not ready to let that go yet.
And for him, he has fewer toe nails. He has scars. He has a questionable past. He is deep down feeling inferior to Mr. Perfect, and even more so when he sees Gil Chae unwilling to be with him.
Oh, humans and our egos. Our pride. Keeping ourselves from our own happiness.
I like that, amongst all the amazing cinematography, choreography, set design, story, acting, etc etc etc... they were still able to include 2 kdrama tropes: amnesia and back-hugs.
OK, so who was the new king at the end talking about his hyungnim? Someone we knew from earlier in the series? That Grand Prince baby all grown up? I almost thought he was Gu Jam just by body build.
And who was the hyungnim he was talking about? Lee Jang Hyeon? Or the original big hyungnim Gu Yang Cheon?
And why did he want Ryaeng Eum to be locked away from daylight forever?
@youronlyone@8@kdrama@kdrama I dropped Twinkling Watermelon when they focussed on the past, without the deaf parents. I need to check out Tell Me You Love Me. And I'll say yet again that #MyDemon is epic. #kdrama
OK, maybe Almighty Ju really was the soul mate of Gu Won when she was younger, and somehow made a deal to get Do Do-Hee as her heir? 🤔
But it sounds like 10 years might be the general contract length, and Do-Hee has been with Almighty Ju slightly longer than that?
So far, they've indicated to not take this show too seriously. I think the play on Pok-Gyu/Fuck You with the middle finger is a big flag to the audience: this is just for fun.
Hmmm. They did just have a conversation about her acting as bait... Was their bodyguard-break-up real or the part they played to make it look real in order to bring the killer out?
OK, so when I turned that SOS thing on on my phone, i didn't realize it would set it off, so i ended up sending a very unflattering selfie to both my mom and spouse of me wondering how to make the noise stop. LOL
Obviously this guy doesn't just want to kill her. If he did, he would have after she passed out. He wouldn't have gone to the trouble to tie her up and wait for her to start screaming before he cut the ties. He wants her to be scared first.
Gu-Won running up all those stairs explains all the sweat on his face!
Why didn't he boop them back to the top of the balcony to grab the bad guy and instead booped them to the stairwell? #kdrama#MyDemon
"I'm familiar with how a predator thinks." 😬 That is not exactly an endearing quality.
I love how Gu-Won's anti-social nature makes him not give a shit when people pressure him for answers. Normal humans at least have some drive to make nice with people. Not Gu-Won, though.
I think Cousin just about wants to throw Gu-Won over the balcony himself for proposing, too.
The shapes of their faces in profile is eye-catching. Like puzzle pieces. Fluffy forehead vs prominent chin. Gu-Won's profile points NNE and Cuz's profile points SSW.

"There's no line I can't cross." Spouse says, "Wow, he's cocky. He's the demon, right? That makes sense."
Demons don't gaf about human defined polite society lines.
For a lady who was dangling screaming from a building less than 24 hours ago, she sure knows how to strut confidently into a scene where she's not welcome.
Dang. I had the tiniest slice of hope that Noh Suk-Min (the eldest son) was Good Actually, but that is just not true.
Given the supernatural aspects of this show, is it possible he actually IS the devil's spawn? Do we know anything about Madam Ju's former spouse? #MyDemon#kdrama
I don't think the actor killer is dead. They showed us a body in his freezer a while back. I think he put THAT body out to get burned, maybe hid in the freezer until the fire died down, and then stabbed that body with the knife to say, "I'll be back." #MyDemon#kdrama
End of the Year Drama Challenge
Day 6: A drama you dropped
As excited as I was for Woo Do-hwan's new shows this year, I had to drop his "Bloodhounds" #kdrama. It was just too up close and violent. I really don't need to have a close-up of someone's face getting sliced with a knife. Maybe I will pick it up again in the future, as he really is a great actor.
Terrifying and powerful, runs a dedicated gang of enforcers that followed her from high school days, colorful, bold, strong, loyal... and she plays the accordion when she's in love. Her style is refined thrift store goth toddler and I love her.
