I saw very high ratings for #MyDearest so I hesitated about upgrading my Viki pass to watch it. I almost quit during the first 3 episodes which seemed to be about very ordinary life for young ladies and lords in the Joseon era. Suddenly, in E4, it became VERY interesting, with Joseon being invaded by Genghis Khan. Apparently, the inspiration for the series was Gone With The Wind, which makes sense. Anyway, I'm on episode 6 and will probably watch pretty relentlessly this week. #kdrama
OK, maybe Almighty Ju really was the soul mate of Gu Won when she was younger, and somehow made a deal to get Do Do-Hee as her heir? 🤔
But it sounds like 10 years might be the general contract length, and Do-Hee has been with Almighty Ju slightly longer than that?
So far, they've indicated to not take this show too seriously. I think the play on Pok-Gyu/Fuck You with the middle finger is a big flag to the audience: this is just for fun.
Secretary Kim is doing all she can to put up with those two flirting in the backseat while she drives. 😆
Wait, so if Do-Hee's parents died when she was 11, and she was their only child, and that had a late marriage, did they have a contract with Gu Won? That she'd be adopted by a rich family? 🤔🧐
If she was Korean age 11, that could mean she was anywhere between age 8 and 11 in international age... Maybe their contract was to have her in the first place?
I think Gu-Won needing to hold Do-Hee's hand because he's afraid of aging is ... kind of a sweet distillation of long-term human relationships? 🥹
I still don't understand why dancing the tango in that situation. Dude can make anything happen at the snap of his fingers. So why the elaborate dance battle? Just for fun?
The camera really showed that puddle of blood under him after he got whacked with the bat. Will it be forgotten and then used as proof for what actually happened?
The "hunting dogs" must've been that whole gang of guys. Why was our perpetrator hiding and recording it? Does he know what Gu-Won is? Is that why he changes his face, too?
A while back, I saw an old blog post about someone's favorite kdramas and it listed 2013's #FlowerBoyNextDoor starring Park Shin-hye. But I sadly couldn't find it anywhere, so just added it to my to-watch list.
Today, while digging through #kdrama availability across streaming platforms, I found it on TWO: both Tubi and Amazon!
Let me say: the first episode is absolutely hilarious! I think this is going to be a good one...
Premise: a shut-in woman spies on the hot guy whose apartment is across from hers. There are also cute guys next door. And then a new one moves in down the hall. And then the hot guy's brother arrives from overseas.
Did I mention the hot guy also has a cute puppy?
I haven't figured out which one is the "Flower Boy Next Door" yet ... 🤔
The streamer Viki decided to call today the first annual #KDramaDay! So, I wanted to highlight some of my favorite #kdramas.
I know that not many folks are willing to jump into installing some new streamer app or service, especially if they've never watched a #kdrama before, so I'll recommend some of my favorites available on different streaming services: Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, AppleTV, Tubi, YouTube, and then Rakuten Viki.
Today is #KDramaDay! I want to recommend good introductory #kdramas available on different streaming services.
My favorite #kdrama available on #Disney+ (I am in the US, so your regional availability may differ) would be "Soundtrack #1" #Soundtrack1, starring Park Hyung-sik and Han Sohee.
✅️ This is a short series, beautifully shot, with good music, a sweet story, and A-list actors.
💘 Park Hyung-sik plays a photographer who is quietly in love with his best friend, played by Han Sohee. She is an up-and-coming lyricist in a creative dry spell.
⚠️ Technical note: If this is your first non-English watch on Disney+, be sure to switch from dub to subtitles!
Today is #KDramaDay! I want to recommend good introductory #kdramas available on different streaming services.
My favorite #kdrama available on #Hulu (I am in the US, so your regional availability may differ) would be "Moving."
✅️ Exciting story with a good variety of characters, evil corporate/political shenanigans, endearing moments, and showing the bullies who they can't mess with.
🦸♂️ #Moving is a modern story about kids (and their parents) who have extraordinary super powers, but try to hide them. If you enjoyed the US TV series "Heroes," this has a similar feel.
⭐️ This series has been so popular that a well-done official English dub is now available!
Today is #KDramaDay! I want to recommend good introductory #kdramas available on different streaming services.
My favorite #kdrama available on #AppleTV would be "Pachinko."
✅️ High production, A-list actors, deeply engaging story, international history.
🗺 #Pachinko is based on novels, about generations in a family, starting in Korea, moving to Japan, and then to the USA. Spanning from ~1900 to 1990, the world keeps changing, including the ways to survive in it, from a rural farm to an international conglomerate's board room.
🔃 Different languages are key here, and AppleTV does a great job indicating when folks are speaking Korean, Japanese, or English - all key to the story.
✅️ Classic trope-and-drama-filled drama, rich-boy-loves-poor-girl, today's A-list actors when they were 10 years younger. Kim Woo-bin is phenomenal.
🤑 A struggling poor teen girl somehow ends up as a transfer student to a school all the rich corporate heirs attend. Love, drama, power imbalances, and hijinks ensue.
It's about a #deaf artist (art) and teacher guy and a woman who is struggling to become an actor. They met by accident and started to find an unlikely and unexpected friendship.
The woman started to communicate through Korean #SignLanguage unexpectedly.
Man monologue: I always thought I was the one who should make an effort to live in harmony with others. Because in this world, there are a lot more people who can hear than those who cannot.
But out of all those people, someone came to me and said "he" first. She said she was glad to see me again. And after saying what she prepared to say, she smiled. As if she was saying, "I'm just saying hi. Stop thinking too much."
And she was smiling.
-end-of-snippet-
As an #Autistic person, that struck hard. We always make the effort "to live in harmony with others". Why? "Because in this world, there are a lot more people who" are neurotypical "than those who" are neuroatypical.
Like the deaf character in this show, we also rarely see non-Autistic who will say hi to us before we do.
Found a song that I can use as my #Korean reading practice.
BUT! It is a very sad song! This is the saddest song I've ever heard in my life.
You don't have to understand the lyrics, the composition and performance will capture your soul and make you feel what it is about. By the time you understand the lyrics, you'll feel your soul being pierced by a double-blade sword.
스물다섯, 스물하나 (Twenty-Five, Twenty-One) by #Jaurim#자우림 released in 2013.
If you're wondering if this song inspired the #Kdrama#스물다섯스물하나, I have no idea, however, the story of the K-drama is very close to the lyrics.
#JYP sure knows how to viral. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 In the International communities, everyone's laughing at the reactions JYP received during his performance last night. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
JYP, the CEO still actively performing, is Creative and isn't afraid to try things you wouldn't expect from him. No wonder his #Kpop and #Kdrama company, JYP Entertainment is one of the so-called "Big 3".
Thanks for sharing that! Turns out I'm a "Social Watcher." I like to talk about the shows I'm watching. No wonder I post & read here and join watch parties! :blobcatfluffowo:
End of the Year Drama Challenge
Day 1: Since when have you been watching dramas?
I took the last week of December off in 2020 and, as a way to distract myself from the incoming Jan 6 events, the global pandemic, everything else, I watched the #kdrama "100 Days My Prince." 🤩😍
End of the Year Drama Challenge
Day 5: A visually beautiful 2023 drama
I looked very hard for a picture of this amazing fireworks bridge that is a key plot location for "See You In My 19th Life," but couldn't find one. There were many beautifully shot scenes in this show - both in modern times, and throughout the protagonist's many lives. Definitely a visually beautiful show.
