Wikipedia mentions that it's Global Accessibility Awareness Day on the English version's main page, but to create an account on there and many of the Wikimedia Foundation's other projects you have to complete an inaccessible captcha. They offer an option for someone to create an account for you if you can't fill it in, but that's not good enough.
There's been a ticket open about this since 2006 according to the date stamp and nothing's been done. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T6845 #GAAD#Wikipedia#Wikimedia
The History of Ions: Unveiling the Electric Charge
"Around 1830, Faraday posited the existence of charged particles within molecules that migrate between electrodes during electrolysis—an idea ahead of its time."

wanna know why I absolutely DESPISE the #Wikimedia foundation?
because their own report about the time the Croatian #Wikipedia was taken over by actual Nazi sympathisers who dedicated their time to legitimise the actual Nazis, they admit they know about the situation SINCE 2007 yet chose to not do anything UNTIL 2021.
and it's clear how sick to the core the organisation is, as they give three recommendations to Croat editors, but none to themselves.
A campaign against #NPR's new CEO, ex-#Wikimedia Foundation Katherine Maher, is trying to portray her as "anti-truth" and "anti-First Amendment" by taking quotes out of context from her past talks about Wikimedia. As a longtime Wikipedian, I think I can give a little more context about these statements — but I recognize that the people behind this campaign are, ironically, not looking for the facts.
With the encouraging keynote ”Science communication and Wikipedia: potentials and pitfalls“ Leonhard Dobusch @leonido today kicked off the conference
”Enhancing the voice of science on Wikipedia: How universities can collaborate with the online encyclopedia in science communication“.
Well first step is that @wikidata does exist on the Fedi.
I’m encouraging @wikimediafoundation folks to consider deeper integration than the rel=me support they have built into #Wikimedia to date and bet they would love to hear ideas.
I am forever grateful to the people who contribute images to Wikimedia Commons and make them available under CC0 licenses. It's a tremendous resource for open-source projects, where typically you don't have the funding to pay for the rights to use a stock image from one of the commercial services.
Today I wanted an image of a baler (a farm machine that makes bales of hay) for use in a new software project, and found a nice one by Glendon Kuhns.
ICYMI a blog post about our Flickypedia project, from Flickr.com: Building Bridges for Open Content: Flickr Foundation’s Link between Flickr and Wikimedia Commons
Our tech lead explains this simple (and good-looking) tool that gives users easy way to copy appropriately-licensed photos from Flickr to Wikimedia Commons. It does duplicate checking, license checking, and the project includes a "Backfillr Bot" which goes and adds Flickr IDs to the 10M images from Flickr which are already on Wikimedia Commons.
