Folk might be interested to know that across the month of May, Sustainable Fashion Week’s campaign invites people to mend one piece of clothing, celebrating repair as an act of empowerment.

I think I'll have a go at my pile. If anyone wants to share mending projects or pics, that'd be lovely.

The stats for why is great are pretty compelling:

If I tried anything like this the 'yarn' would be hopelessly snarled. It's actually fine silk thread that Althea Crome uses to knit (80 stitches per inch!), tiny sweaters that re-create famous artworks in detail.

I had not realised that there was a gender divide in craft shopping, but think about it:
If it's a "hobby" store, it is full of model airplanes, TTRPG miniatures, and construction sets, intended to appeal to guys.
If it is a "craft" store, it is full of yarn, thread, paint, scrapbooking supplies, and jewellery-making supplies, assumed to appeal to gals.

@LJ @Maker_of_Things @makershour oh hello 👋 i think we have a lot in common - I live on a smallholding. You can see all about it on @ScotHomestead but I also love and which is what this account is all about. Though recently I have been wondering why I have two because on other sites I did but here it doesn’t seem to matter so much.

This print was also very popular at Cheltenham and Wakefield. We sold five!

Thankfully I recently printed some more although it's already getting to the point where I need to print more.

I try to make a lot of entry level affordable prints because I know that times are tough at the moment. But I might still print that Mousehole print yet!

Q2 Where/when do you do your creative thinking? Or is it more of a case of where/when don't you?

@Maker_of_Things @makershour A2 i think creatively all the time everywhere, it’s like my brain has two motors running at once. However to actually get things done I need to slow down the motors and find a brain gear that works. This is usually in my craft room with the door shut!

Mt. Everest is laden with waste left by climbers — Nepal's Department of Tourism estimates that there are nearly 140,000 tons. Now, some of that material is finding its way to Tharu craftswomen who combine discarded ropes with moonj, a traditionally harvested wild grass, to make boxes and mats. NPR's Tanka Dhakal explains more about how the program works, and how its organizers hope it will grow.

Craft Project! I have a beloved Kobo Libra H2O. It has a proprietary case covered in a blue fake leather that began to flake. I took it off and for a while went with the cloth underneath. But that was beginning to fray and so I decided to fix it with my ninja bookmaking skills. Probably should have used a thinner cloth for the magnet but it looks beautiful!

    Warning: Rant
My husband and I are both left-handed.

There are approximately 708 million left-handers in the world.

Over 9% of people are left-handed.

Apparently these numbers do not meet the threshold for inclusion in product design.

My former Mr. Coffee coffeemaker had ambidextrous functionality. The flap over the water reservoir opened to the back, allowing someone to pour water easily from either side.

My new Mr. Coffee coffeemaker includes a design change. The flap over the water reservoir opens to the left, making it almost impossible for me pour water into it.

I just bought a new electric water kettle. The first time I filled it with water, I guessed at the fill limit because I saw no markings inside.

Then I read the instruction manual that referenced the maximum fill line. What? Turns out, I can only see the fill line markings if I fill the kettle while holding it in my right hand. 🤦‍♀️

If you are a product designer, you commit design malpractice if you fail to acknowledge the existence of left-handers.

    End rant.

A black electric water kettle on a kitchen counter. The handle is oriented to the right and the pour spout is on the left. The lid is flipped up. On the inside, stamped into the stainless steel, two fill line markers are visible.

I’ve been working on a couple of started but fiddly quilt projects. This design is an offset Log Cabin, 12”. It’s a small experiment in adding 2mm cording as part of the border for dimension. The inconsistencies will be masked via wet blocking, an appliquéd bow in the same red fabric, quilting & small embelishments as required. @fibrearts @fiberarts
