I finished a new three color print today… contemplating doing a whole series of balls. Another relief print on handmade paper created with 3D printed printing plates.

Being a printmaker with a 3D printer means that when you forgot to get (or make) a card and you've only got two hours before an event you've got things covered.

This print was also very popular at Cheltenham and Wakefield. We sold five!

Thankfully I recently printed some more although it's already getting to the point where I need to print more.

I try to make a lot of entry level affordable prints because I know that times are tough at the moment. But I might still print that Mousehole print yet!

It’s so it’s a good time to celebrate the extraordinary mathematician and NASA scientist Katherine Johnson (née Coleman; 1918 – 2020). One of the first Black women employed as a NASA scientist (& its predecessor NACA), she was known for her mastery of complex manual calculations of orbital mechanics & played a pivotal role 🧵1/

In honour of his birthday: Kepler’s Somnium. This hand-printed linocut illustrates astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler's science fiction story Somnium, or "The Dream". Kepler (1571-1630) wrote the strange manuscript in Latin, and circulated it amongst friends, with the intention of eventually publishing it but he died before that could could happen.

For the , a print I made for Sea prompt. It’s a linocut of one of my favourite mythological creatures: the Zaratan, here in my print a giant sea turtle disguised as an island. There’s a small campfire on the supposed beach, and a sailing ship from the age of exploration nearby.

Here's another one of my recent prints, Mevagissey Harbour, a six colour screenprint which I started editioning earlier this year.

It is from a series of photographs I took of the harbour. I did not trace it from the photograph though but redrew it and interpreted it in my own way.

It features four colours and two transparent blacks. And lots of textures and natural media elements.

It is quite large at 48 x 38cm.

Happy birthday to , aeronautical , philanthropist and Cherokee ‘hidden figure’ of the space race: Mary Golda Ross (1908-2008).

Great-great-granddaughter of Chief John Ross, who was forced to lead his people on the Trail of Tears, Ross attributed her success in math to the Cherokee tradition of encouraging equal education for boys and girls. She went to…

A tower of giraffes 🦒, g is for giraffe and a lone giraffe for ! Such an apt for the world’s tallest animal, celebrated on the longest day (in the northern hemisphere - or night in the southern). There are estimated to be only 117,000 remaining in the wild so efforts are needed to ensure they survive and thrive in the future.

Ok starting a new art thread for 2023! Here's the deal: a mostly daily thread with a different artist every day (sometimes I repeat from previous years if I feel like featuring other work/projects), primarily modern and contemporary since that's my thing. I'm even making a hashtag for it in case that makes it easier for folks to follow. Enjoy!

Woodblock prints by Japanese artist Nishijima Katsuyuki, (couldn't find dates for some of these but I'm guessing) c. 1990s-2000s. Known for his romantic images of Japan, he uses the same traditional woodblock printing techniques employed by ukiyo-e masters centuries earlier.
