good morning! Cannonball Adderley - Somethin’ Else @vinylrecords

I love Cannonball Adderley and in particular his collaborations with his brother Nat, but on this instead we get Miles Davis on probably the best record where he’s credited as session musician.

Stanley Turrentine and The Three Sounds - "Blue Hour" (1961)

One of the crown jewels of the catalog has been reissued. I love my mono original of this, scratches and all, but this new stereo reissue is terrific. Ideal rainy day music.

: A 1974 reissue of ’s Live at the Village Vanguard (green/ABC Impulse labels etc.; sounds great, cheap). Cut from four nights of his two weeks at the NYC venue in 1961. Its B-side “ends when it ends and it could conceivably go on much longer. It doesn’t know the meaning of ‘sufficient.’ Sometimes it gets unbearably exciting. It can make the listener think: What exactly is going on here?” https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2021/11/03/john-coltrane-village-vanguard-1961/ @vinylrecords

- don & moki cherry & the organic music theatre, france, late august '72. the height of the cherrys' is-this-even- commune vibes in the middle of a giant straight jazz festival featuring mingus, blakey, etc. kids on stage, puppet shows, lots of chants & singalongs & percussion (including nana vasconcelos), some light . from the(?) period when cherry didn't play any at all. https://blankformseditions.bandcamp.com/album/organic-music-theatre-festival-de-jazz-de-chateauvallon-1972 @vinylrecords

have been wanting a copy for a while - just found at the local record fair. The cover is a bit discoloured, but the vinyl looks great - fingers crossed it will be when listening later today. 1982 Japanese pressing. @vinylrecords

some crackles, but nothing that doesn’t add character, and what a fantastic record to play from vinyl, the sound is just sublime. @vinylrecords

Vinyl record cover of Miles Davis’ We Want Miles. The music playing is the instrumental funk jazz track Jean-Pierre.

I'm going to have a running thread of music I buy. A record (ahem) for me really. Because I lack discipline in actually giving music enough time and this might help. If someone else discovers a new artist then great. Mute if it's unwelcome.

Having enjoyed seeing Trish Clowes (saxophone) and Ross Stanley (piano) as part of a quintet last night, giving their album Journey to Where a proper listen. Some originals. Some standards. All new to me. It's a cliché to say it's like a conversation. But it is. Best album I've bought this year I reckon.

In more listening to albums I bought on Friday featuring someone I saw live on Saturday news, Brad Meldhau brings his talents to Eagles Point by Chris Potter. Add in Brian Blade and John Patitucci and you're not going to go wrong. And they don't of course. It's a good listen although nothing here demanded my undivided attention.
