The Roches The Roches US Warner Bros. 1979

The Roches-- Maggie, Terre, and Suzzy- one of those groups that hung around the edge of the music scene, but were never that popular. Maggie started out as a songwriter. Maggie and Terre released album produced by Paul Simon. This album was produced by Robert Fripp. They would go on to work with Tom Waits and Michael Stipe. But it was a Cornelius cover of "Hammond Song" that got me this album.

good morning! Cannonball Adderley - Somethin’ Else @vinylrecords

I love Cannonball Adderley and in particular his collaborations with his brother Nat, but on this instead we get Miles Davis on probably the best record where he’s credited as session musician.

Some more - not as well known as Bridge of Sighs but still amazing. I can’t beleive I hadn’t heard of this guy before sometime in the last year…I have a lot of stuff to catch up on. Pretty sure I got this record from a dollar bin, and it’s in great shape. A good vacuum cleaning helped for sure.

The first album I bought on CD. This edition not only puts that version to shame, but obliterates the earlier wax pressing. Richard Lloyd and Robert Quine on the same album is noteworthy enough, but "classic" status requires songs and Girlfriend has them in spades. @vinylrecords

Stanley Turrentine and The Three Sounds - "Blue Hour" (1961)

One of the crown jewels of the catalog has been reissued. I love my mono original of this, scratches and all, but this new stereo reissue is terrific. Ideal rainy day music.

always sounds to me like so much of 90s West Coast tracks its sound and aesthetic to Roy Ayers. e.g., Dr Dre only sampled this track once, for a Detox track, but I can't help suspecting he took much more from it for his sound.

the "my life, my life, my life" tag was true Cali staple, used by Tupac, Ice Cube, Mc Eiht ("my life, my life, my life, with a tech nine").

Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Everybody Loves the Sunshine @vinylrecords

Record cover of Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Everybody Loves the Sunshine, with a photograph of the artist in a yellow t-shirt. The music playing is the title track, with a low bass grove, a piano riff, and a high-pitched continuous synthesiser sound. The lyrics start with "my life, my life, my life, in the sunshine".

I fortuitously discovered this Doc Watson record just before a trip to the NC mtns, not far from the original Mast Store on the back cover. The front photo was shot at P.B. Scott’s Music Hall in Blowing Rock, which closed in the 80s. "Some of the guys put some pitchers of beer in front of Doc, and he was wondering why everyone was trying hard not to laugh. Doc was not a drinker." https://www.hcpress.com/news/how-p-b-scotts-came-to-be-an-extensive-profile-of-the-venue-written-by-one-of-the-founders.html
