Hi! This is the main Fediverse account of a blog about LINux on MOBile devices – linmob.net. It's has been restarted in 2020 because of the PinePhone.

Used to be https://identi.ca/linmob. Also on the birdsite: https://nitter.net/linmobblog.

One of the most annoying things about being an English-language content creator are the Americans who insist that everything must be about them.

I can make a video that never mentions the US once, and I will get hundreds of responses about the US.

I will get people claiming that I'm wrong because of some issue unique to the US.

I will get Americans telling me that I have a moral responsibility to help them fix their cities, despite the fact that I'm not American and I don't live there.

@notjustbikes Sounds familiar. People complained to me when phone calls (or worse, the entire Linux Phone) would not work with their American MVNO (and I then had to look up which one of the actual carriers I am vaguely familiar with that used).

The upside of this: It's easy to spot the Americans!

Wrote a blog post about the first two months of my Pro usage as a PDA and how I got around solving some initial hardware problems (spoiler: read the manual, then asked the support team).

@PINE64 is a company I can recommend supporting.

@BeanieBarrow Nice post! For Firefox i can recommend you to give @user0 's fenix branch of https://codeberg.org/user0/mobile-config-firefox/src/branch/fenix a try. It works really well in landscape, I use it on my PinePhone Pro with keyboard case, too (see https://linmob.net/using-the-pinephone-pro-daily-despite-having-given-up-on-it/ for my post on it - I still use it daily.)

@FediFollows Feel free to include this account, too - https://linmob.net sadly mostly features Weekly Update posts these days, but those hopefully still should be relevant to as they intend to collect everything relevant that happened in the week before.

I love @user0's excellent mobile-config-firefox adaption (https://codeberg.org/user0/mobile-config-firefox/src/branch/fenix). Sadly, as these things go, upstream changes stuff, and with Firefox 123 the tab counter/switcher is broken: https://codeberg.org/user0/Mobile-Friendly-Firefox/issues/4

I wonder, if integrating something like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tree-style-tab/ could be a more sustainable approach?

@user0 Thank you for the quick reply, I've found a work-around for now. 🙂

Since https://fosstodon.org/@linmob/111437486318142093 is not entirely unpopular: If you are wondering if I recommend this setup: I'm torn. Two batteries make the PinePhone Pro more useful, and getting once one gets used to the keyboard, it's nice to type on.
If you have a PinePhone Pro that's sitting in a drawer, go for it - if not, there are lots of micro laptops out there that may be better by having things like a backlit keyboard, a pointing device, or a slightly bigger, not 2:1 screen.
