There are times when I feel so scared to speak out my opinions. I will never want to be labeled as far-right or far-left, but anything you say that gets viral these days can be interpreted as far-right or far-left. I just want to contribute, have a good job, and fun life.

Filipinos have a thing for seeking out familiar flavors abroad. Some people crave a taste of home, a connection to their identity while living in a foreign country. It's like a little piece of the wherever they are. Others might do it out of patriotism, a way to support Filipino products even overseas.

@neuronakaya@mastodon.social avatar

Actually, this isn't unique to Filipinos. People from all cultures enjoy familiar flavors, even if they know the local version might be more authentic. It's like comparing family recipes – there's always a curiosity about how others do it, even if yours is the best. 😉

Zambales, Philippines has reached 53 celsius. This heatwave is serious.

I'm having heat cramps and exhaustion here in Iloilo. It's midnight and I'm sweating.

A few days from now, my brain will be fully developed which means I will be an adult who has to be politically correct all of the time. Horror. My youth is about to end.

@youronlyone I've been an adult. Just about to be out of youth.

I created a new account for an org and now I have to pay so I can post. Social media isn't free now. Are there no other ways to stop or reduce the bots without asking people to pay? X is for free speech but X isn't free? 😔

Opinion: Only The Philippines still has a strong relation with the US in Southeast Asia. While I'm not against this, I don't like that the US is forcing other ASEAN nations to pick between China and US. It only pushes them further. In the end, Philippines would still side with ASEAN as it is its priority and as one of the founders. Don't even try to separate Philippines from ASEAN!

neuronakaya OP ,
@neuronakaya@mastodon.social avatar

@youronlyone Sorry but I'm betting more on the ASEAN than Japan-Korea-Philippines. We have closer cultural and political ties with other ASEAN nations.

Japan has a stagnant economy for 3 decades and it will continue. Korea only has a soft power via entertainment. ASEAN is the fastest growing economy for a region. Indonesia is already becoming an economic power in the top 4.

SEA is the most vulnerable to climate change and economic growth that would produce innovation should be our priority.

This is a prime example of over-praising Japan that doesn't go along with facts. Japan is always used as a tool by people so they can have a country to fantasize about. Not even the strongest passport.

Japan's GDP has been declining for over 30 years. It has been performing poorly in comparison to China. We no longer hear about new tech innovations from the country, and cities are becoming dirtier and more crime-ridden. Everything now costs less for tourists but more for locals. I think Japan as we knew is no longer the same. In my view, it's becoming poorer. People in Japan are becoming poorer.

Update of Philippine politics:

Duterte wants to appeal the separation of Mindanao from the Philippines. Many people are claiming there would be North Philippines and South Philippines. What's your opinion about this?

Why is it that when non-Filipinos hear about the Philippines, they think of the tropical beaches but cannot name a beach island in the country? But when they hear of Indonesia, they think about the Muslims first but they know about Bali?

I can't help but shed a tear when I saw my great grandfather's name, as one of the soldiers who fought against the Japanese during WW2. He and my great grandmother raised me.

Twitter's algorithm is so shitty that I no longer see many academic discussions. Many academics have been offline. I was relying on this platform to connect with scientists and read their research papers but I now hardly see them. What twitter has become is fucking depressing.

I see Polynesians claiming that Filipinos are "copying" their tattoos and other traditions, when Filipinos actually did them first. It seems like the island culture is only credited to the Polynesians, when austronesians from southeast asia were actually the first sea farers in the Pacific.
