I'm Violet, a 50-something Canadian trans girl. I'm here mainly to chat with my online friends, but I post about science and trans issues.

From Nature: Brain fog from long COVID may result from inflammation caused by immune cells crossing a leaky blood-brain barrier. If this sounds familiar, it's a similar mechanism to that which leads to demyelination in multiple sclerosis. If COVID research maintains its momentum, perhaps it could have a ripple effect for other diseases involving similar processes.

This is only one of the mechanisms by which long COVID affects the brain. Other researchers have found evidence of direct infection of brain tissues.

I wanna try something:

& questions friday.
I will answer every respectful question about (my) autism & ADHD if you ask them today, commenting on this post.

All of the answers will be provided based on my personal experience. I do not speak for all people and those with ADHD.

I will not give any medical advice.

Following in case I can add my late-diagnosed ADHD perspective.

If you could dispel one myth about autism and humans, what would it be?

Share your thoughts and let's break down stereotypes.

@galad
Fun fact: Andrew Wakefield's "study" was based on half a dozen hand-picked people. And he wasn't anti-vaccine; he had financial interest in another vaccine that was intended to compete with the MMR.

Peer review must have been nonexistent in 1998 for that paper to get published.

My son is a good example. Other people's visible emotions affect him strongly. He just has his own way of showing it.

prompt: who taught you how to ?

When I think back I seem to "always" have done fibercrafts. I'm not even sure, which I learned first. My grandma and my mom always worked on some project, I've spent probably half of my toddlerhood in something crafted by my mother.

I definitely learned before the age of 6, either simple embroidery or crocheting, from my mom. When I started school I also could knit, had even done my first pair of socks.

@FanCityKnits
I started a couple of months ago by watching YouTube videos, but quickly became frustrated. Then a close friend gave me a tutorial and I can sort of maintain a knit stitch now, except I seem to add stitches to every row. She's going to give me another lesson this weekend. 😁
