@GottaLaff NFL I guess she's now openly preventing Trump from having a trial. Cannon needs to be removed from her position. Our system should not allow judges to be immune from consequences.
@GottaLaff what sucks the most on this (IMO) was that this was probably the most clear cut of the cases in terms of he’s guilty. This sucks but when you’re ‘rich’ and white, consequences don’t exist.
@GottaLaff if I still interacted with them I would love to see people I know who have clearances do the mental gymnastics routines to explain why this isn’t a problem; if they did that they would have been in jail about five minutes after it was figured out they had the docs
@GottaLaff I'm a little disappointed that Jack Smith hasn't tried to bounce Cannon yet. Her obstruction of a speedy trial is clear, as it is of the SCOTUS.
Every Sunday, Jessica Craven at Chop Wood, Carry Water has a long list of good democracy news.
It's a much-needed burst of encouragement, and strong evidence of people's efforts paying off for democracy.
@GottaLaff
So now the question is:
Aileen Cannon is no longer bothering to hide her sickening, self pissing devotion to trump.
She's doing everything she can, in fact.
SO WHY IN THE BLOODY FUCK IS SHE STILL ON THE BENCH?!?!?!
Her behavior makes it so easy to imagine her kneeling in front of a life size cutout of trump, she's absolutely disgusting on every level, that vile creature is not a judge, she's literally the super jumbo sized butt plug he uses to fuck over every American put at risk by trump's stealing and selling those classified documents.
And tax dollars pay her salary.
I've seen sleazy before.
But Aileen Cannon is downright UNCLEAN. She's an abomination.
@GottaLaff
I was waiting for this. She held onto trial date as long as she could in hopes she could tie up that date to delay other trials.
Hopefully all the other judges determined this was what she was doing and are making their plans without regard for her dates.
It is infuriating she is delaying justice in such an incompetent manner. Well, I guess she is competent in her obstruction but you know what I
mean.
time for jack to work on getting this judge removed off the case.. we the people seek justice and she is purposely impeding our right to his speedy trial.
The Court also determines that finalization of a trial date at this juncture—before resolution of the myriad and interconnected pre-trial and CIPA issues remaining and forthcoming—would be imprudent and inconsistent with the Court’s duty to fully and fairly consider the various pending pre-trial motions before the Court, critical CIPA issues, and additional pretrial and trial preparations necessary to present this case to a jury.
Court "determines that finalization of a trial date at this juncture—before resolution of the myriad and interconnected pre-trial and CIPA issues remaining and forthcoming—would be imprudent and inconsistent with the court’s duty to fully and fairly consider the various pending pre-trial motions before the court.."
With 13 days before her trial was supposed to kick off, Judge Cannon finally says what has been obvious to every legal journalist I know: She’s not just canceling the existing trial date; she’s also not picking a replacement.
@arisummerland No one. The judge is a Trump appointee and a huge Trump fan. She looks in the mirror and sees a Supreme Court justice thanks to him. @GottaLaff
@GottaLaff But he is still on trial in New York so maybe there’s evidence related to both cases and they do actually need the NY case closed before they hear this one? It might not let him off the hook at all?
@GottaLaff yes but, physically, the same defendant cannot be in two different states in two separate cases at the same time. He has to be there, in court. Justice requires him to be present.
@GottaLaff Judge Cannon's move today is infuriating, but completely expected.
Now it's Smith's turn to start taking the fight to her. Here's a helpful explainer on how he can ask to have her replaced; the difficulty (but not impossibility!) he'll face in doing so; and why, in light of the Constitution's double jeopardy clause, it's absolutely vital that he move to DQ her now: https://www.thebulwark.com/p/what-it-would-look-like-to-remove-judge-cannon
I'm not sure she's crossed the line where a removal request would be successful. You effectively get only one shot, after that the appeals court is not receptive to further attempts.
@artemesia@msbellows And last night one of the legals said nothing will be done by Smith, not enough to go to the 11th. This is a dead end unless Biden wins.
A) the votes aren't there (wouldn't be there) to remove in the senate, so what's the point of woofing about impeaching crooked justices? Just makes the democratic party look ineffectual, for low information observers. Just asking for a political defeat. Can't see Speaker Jeffries being this stupid.
B) I hate the cliche construct "needs to be...". No the subject of your needs to be does not need that. What you are expressing is your emotional need to see that happen. Lose that cliche.
@artemesia@GottaLaff@Nonilex It must be nice to have no emotions and never need to vent, late at night, when you're tired, among what are supposed to be your friends.
@GottaLaff On the plus side, Cannon may well likely get sidelined from the bench for this indefinitely. DCT judges have a strict judicial code of ethics they must follow and fellow DCT judges and CTAPP judges enforce. I expect a motion to force recusal as well as referral for disciplinary proceedings. Hope she thought is was worth it and didn't have any paper trails....
@GottaLaff I would put the odds at 70% for at least a several month suspension from the bench and greater than 50% for something significantly more. If you look at it from the Federal Bench and circuit perspective, she has put a permanent black mark of their reputation with the DOJ.
The past few reversals can be chalked up charitably to taking a different view of the law. But blowing timelines, especially late in the process and wasting DOJ resources is something easily avoidable. Should nothing be done, then the DOJ will suspect that that position is endorsed by the Fed Bench and the circuit. Something will need to be done and Cannon will likely need to be used as an example to deter future judges from doing the same thing (regardless of who nominated them).
@GottaLaff NFL. And this trial is for perhaps the worst crimes against the people and national security of the United States of America. There has to be a way to move this along again. No single judge should ever have this much power. What about the right to a speedy trial? Does it not also apply that right to the People?
Yup, I'll give 5-1 odds on a remand to lower court shadow docket punt past the election. We'll have to beat him at the ballot box, which was always the best plan.
