This place isn't perfect. It has its problems, flaws, and limitations. It's not immune to hatred or those who spread negativity.
Yet, here I've encountered incredible people, a marvelous community committed to bringing constructive engagement, dialogue, and social interaction back to the network.
Thank you, Fediverse.
Thank you, friends of the Fediverse.
For today's #ThankYouTuesday, I want to express my gratitude to someone I will refer to only by his first name, Gabriele. Many years ago, I was stuck in a job where I was exploited by my employer—the only one I had ever had. Gabriele, who attended one of my Linux courses about 20 years ago, saw my potential and offered me life-changing advice: 'You have a passion for what you do. Don't waste your time on someone who uses it only for their own profit. Start your own business, I'll help by introducing you to some of my clients, and we can offer the Open Source solutions that excite you so much. You're young enough to try.' I took the leap. It wasn't easy, but ultimately, I succeeded in doing the work I love and choosing the technical solutions I prefer. I'm not a great salesman and often charge too little, feeling almost guilty for asking people to pay for something I enjoy so much. But tonight, I want to say thank you to Gabriele. He might not read this, but my gratitude remains.
Also, BIG #gratitude for my apartment, which lets me see 2 kinds of #CherryBlossoms out back & #city beauty out front even if I'm not well enough to go out 🙌🏽
-A rapid strep test plus antibiotics mean my daughter felt well enough to go to school today.
-My new blow dryer is lighter, quieter, and more efficient than the one it replaced.
-We found a $20 replacement for medicine that had been costing $100 a month.
Bonus: I have an interesting editing project from Cornell University Press--an academic work with a feminist twist.
☕️ Seems most of what I share lately is #coffee 🤔😝🤓
A pick-me-up after unexpected adulting (read : #adulting + #ChronicIllness = #pwME / #MECFS exhaustion) from a surprise plumber I've been trying to schedule 🙌🏽
Wiped out, post-clean-up, BIG #gratitude for amazing #vegan#café au lait (a treat bc usually drink black)! 🥳
Sending good vibes to my kindred invisible-#disability folks 💕
For today's #ThankYouTuesday, I want to express my gratitude to the entire open-source community. Past, present, and future. I owe so much to what many developers, sysadmins, enthusiasts have built and maintained. I've always believed that culture should be free and accessible to all, and the OSS community has made it possible to study, learn, and implement complex and professional solutions without the need for closed systems, licenses, or expensive "certification" courses.
Thank you to all the cashier's at the grocery store who make sure I am able to get the things I need.
Thank you to all the farmers who ensure I get the best ethically grown food. You feed me with the fruits of your labor. Thank you.
Thank you to all the teachers, nurturers, and medicine makers. You keep me educated, fill me with love, and are valuable healers.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I spent money on organic non salted pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, so that I can feed the birds and squirrels in my neighborhood.
I actually got to feed a squirrel that got super close to me. It reminded me of that one time I tried to make a neighborhood squirrel a pet. I was 6 yrs old. My grandmother was NOT too happy about it 😅
I am reading a book that's healing me and inspiring me to forgive myself and others.
When the sun comes out, it's always a good morning. I live in upstate NY, seeing the sun come out is the best thing. Plus, I'm a Caribbean person, I need me some sunshine.
Recharging my batteries after helping a close friend is a must. I know it can hurt when your loved one asks for space, but I promise you, it's a good thing. Boundaries are good for any relationship. It honors those relationships.
Off we go into a new week, #FediFam; as we snuggle into our respective beds, let's breathe deep, let go of our stress and sorrows, and think about THREE GOOD THINGS™️!
🫂 Have an old friend staying as a houseguest this week. Fun times ahead.
👔 Got my laundry done.
👻 Kept the #anxiety under control today despite difficult conditions.
Yesterday is a memory, today is ending, but tomorrow is another fresh chance to give yourself a good day. Sleep tight.
